Paid for Trojan Hunter & it's missing MEGA trojans!?

Thanks to this site (tomcoyote), I've loaded several spyware/malware programs. For what it's worth - the one that seems to catch the most thus far (but not all) is noadware (paid version). Microsoft's malware remover tool has also caught a trojan that Trojan Hunter missed (unfortunately, the paper I wrote the name of it down on has disappeared, and now I can't recall the name of the trojan)... and one other trojan was caught (again - same missing piece of paper - can't recall the name of the trojan, sorry) by yet another program (not Trojan Hunter). That's 2 in the past week. Now I'm on my THIRD one! My computer has been slowly degrading - yet I have so many anti-spyware/anti virus programs loaded, that it baffles me that I cannot seem to keep up with it! Where is the loophole in my system? The more spyware programs I load, the worse it seems to get. Now, thanks to downloading the trial version of Spy Sweeper, I have found yet ANOTHER trojan (my 3rd in 1 week) and what appears to be adware: trojan-downloader-conhook and Adware: virtumonde. NONE of my installed programs caught this, to include my licensed version of Trojan Hunter, until I loaded spy sweeper (thanks to tomcoyote). Here are my major symptoms: The usual: sluggish computer performance, slow page loads, etc. Blank Page load when I try to return "home" - which is yahoo.com Yahoo.com cannot load unless I click "refresh" when I go to it from another URL. Suddenly, options from my start up are missing... it started with my calculator disappearing into thin air, and then my Microsoft Word Pad. Just GONE. Poof. Had to reload the both programs. I'm unsure of what the problem is or how to fix it. Also, EWIDO continuously identifies noadware as being malicious spyware, so I'm curious if they are incompatible? HELP! I feel like I am constantly in a state of staying one step ahead of this degradation of my computer... and losing fast. I update every anti-malware/spyware program I have sometimes 2-3 times per day. Had to do a system restore last night, things got so bad... then spent my night reloading all of my updates, etc. Suggestions??? ~Kim (thanks)

When I close my open browsers, NOADWARE flashes a pop up that says something to the effect of:

An Attempt was made to change your IE Settings from () to (http://www.msn.com/access/allinone.asp)

Then it asks me if I approve of this change... to which I've clicked 'NO' since I'm not sure what this is about.

WHAT IS THIS????

Getting worse:

Now, not a SINGLE clickable link at yahoo.com is accessible. If I click on a link - NOTHING.

Can't get into my mail unless I go through my history and come up with a sneaky way of getting back in (takes FOREVER to find a route that will work).

I've written to yahoo - but without being able to access my mail (for certain), that's of little use.

Microsoft.com is of no help either. None of the troubleshooting fixes seems to apply to my situation.

PLEASE HELP![size=4]

Sorry to keep adding messages to my thread, but as I discover problems or info, I feel like I should let you know (in the event anyone is able to help me)..

In comparing a HJT scan log back from when I fought the vundo trojan (and won), I saved my final HJT log that indicated my system was clean...

The comparison between that scan log and the one I'm getting now is this:

Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\WRLogonNTF.dll

What is this? Should I have HJT fix this????

ANYONE? I'll take any advice at this point...

Hello Kim P., Welcome to the forum.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

"copy/paste" a new HJT log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment

Here is a new HJT scan log (below).

My computer now:

1. Blank pages load, or pages that say "this website is unavailable .. please check your browser settings.."
This is not consistant - it's hit or miss. Sometimes it works - out of the blue - but most of the time, I'm
unable to load yahoo.. and now it's creeping into google and other websites. I have to refresh to get it
to load... but then the links won't work on the site once it's loaded.

2. I've just checked our cable modem, and our router. Everything seems all right... but I'm not ruling out
a cable connection problem of some sort... keeping an open mind.

3. Loaded more anti-spyware programs in hopes that one of them will find SOMETHING. They found minor
problems post the discovery by spy sweeper of trojan-downloader-conhook and the adware virtumonde
(which spy sweeper removed - I hope)... but no major finds since then.

4. When I use my yahoo mail account, I cannot use the tool bar (can't change the font, or use any of the
options), and there's a yellow warning triangle in the lower left corner of my screen telling me the page
has errors. This has been a persistant problem for the past month.

5. As I type this, the bottom of my screen (lower left) says: (warning triangle) A Bad URL http://~~~~~~~

6. Over the past few weeks, I have had IE crashes where I get a message that there could be a problem with a BHO in Add-ons. I tried eliminating them one by one, but it made no difference. Problems persisted.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

It looks like you are running 2 Anti-Virus programs. That can cause conflicts and lock-ups.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
NoAdware4 <--Unless it's the paid for version

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Thank you again for your help.

I have the paid version of NoAdware, but did remove the others (viewpoint). I've got so many programs downloaded for antispyware/malware that I do wonder about incompatibility.

Still having issues getting yahoo to load up, had to refresh - but the links are working now, which is a plus. And, on the 2nd attempt to start up yahoo (from scratch), it loaded the first try. However, the mail tools still aren't functioning (still have an error warning). Something seems "corrupted" somewhere?

Still testing --- going from my yahoo mail account to "home" (using icon in toolbar) takes me to yet another blank page. The bottom says "done" - yet there is nothing on the page at all.

It's still hit and miss. :huh:

No. That is a legit program.

Hmmm. Remove Norton/Symantec? Can I just disable one of them? I paid for both,

Running both can cause conflicts and lock-ups. You can use Msconfig and uncheck one of them from startup, and see if that helps with the issues you're having.

click Start> Run> type in Msconfig tap enter key.
look in the Startup

uncheck which one you don't want to run at startup.

After you uncheck it and rebooting, you'll be using Selective startup.
When you see the box popup that tells you that, just put a Check in the Box to not show that when you startup. That's how I run mine.

You can always go back and re-check it.

Thank you for the tip on changing start up - I'll give that a shot.

Still having issues with my default browser (yahoo) opening... but at least
things have stopped getting worse for the time being. I'll keep plugging away at it.
