Well, I was screwing around and downloaded some carp** file from some carp** site. So, after spending about 2 hours trying various removal methods, I was able to get rid of part of the plague installed on my PC. The only recurring problem appears to be with something that's associated itself with Firefox.exe, as it gets randomly redirected to advert sites every so often.

Here's my log, a look is appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum. You have picked up some nasty infections. It's going to take several steps. First is the New.Net hijacker, look at the 010 items in the log. These can not be removed with HJT. I have yet to find anyone who downloaded this junk on purpose, if you are the first, stop and let me know.

1) Do this first: http://www.newdotnet.com/removal.html When those 010 lines in the log are gone, move to #2.
This is a tool for emergencies only:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

2) You have as Look2Me infection, if you follow the directions you can remove it:

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.
  • Close all windows before continuing.
  • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
  • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
  • You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
  • When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Your computer will then shutdown.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
If Look2Me-Destroyer does not reopen automatically, reboot and try again.

If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.
http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/images/lib/MSWINSCK.OCX

More info:

If for some reason Look2Me-Destroyer doesn't reopen check that task scheduler is running.
If it isnt you can use sc.exe to start it

start>run sc start schedule press enter.

C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log. Include your comments, we will have more to do.

Thanks…pskelley

Ah, thanks for the help, but my PC was too bogged down to even connect to this site so I could figure anything out. I ended up just formatting, which I've been meaning to do for a while anyway. I do appreciate the help though! I'll make sure and come here if I ever get screwed again.
OK and thanks for letting me know. Here is some information that may help you avoid these problems in the future.
