I have run Spybot, Ad-Aware, CW shredder, Ewido, McAfee virus scan. Here are the results from Ewido scan and my HiJackThis log.
Also, I was not able to run Ewido in "safe mode" because when I restart in safe mode, no programs come up. I get a black screen with "safe mode" in each corner, but no list of programs and nothing to click on or any commands. How do I run something in "safe mode?" I can get there, but don't see any programs. I have windows XP media.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:

    http://www.ewido.net/en/

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
    1) Restart your computer
    2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt.
Thanks for your help!! Here are the results from my HJT log, Ewido scan, and VUNDO:

Download CCleaner from here >>>>> http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html

Save it to your desktop. Open CCleaner and click on "run cleaner" at the bottom right.

NEXT

Download Pocket Killbox version 2.0.0.175
http://www.atribune.org/downloads/KillBox.exe
If you already have Killbox first ensure it is this version !.

Then double-click on the killbox.exe program.

Start Killbox and click on Tools->Delete Temp Files.
Then select the option labeled Delete on reboot.

Do not close killbox, and open notepad, by clicking on Start, then Run, and typing notepad.exe and pressing the OK button.

When notepad is open, copy and paste the following bolded text into the notepad screen. You do this by highlighting each of the below bolded filenames and then pressing Control-C on your keyboard. Then click on the open notepad windows and press Control-V to paste the contents into the notepad.

C:\Program Files\WinFixer\FRec.dll
C:\Program Files\WinFixer\Install.exe
C:\Program Files\WinFixer\srp.exe
C:\Program Files\WinFixer\support.exe
C:\Program Files\WinFixer\wfxcwr.exe

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu and select Paste from Clipboard.

Still in Killbox, click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click No at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Then look for and delete this folder if present

C:\Program Files\WinFixer <<
Then a new hijackthis log please. How is it running?
I ran CCleaner and Killbox. After rebooting, I tried to delete the winfixer folder but I got a message that said "Cannot delete WFShell.dll. Access is denied. Make sure disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." I am the administrator on this computer. Not sure why I could not delete the file. I am not getting the "blackworm" popup or the adult dating site popups today, but they were coming at very unpredictable times (like when I would click on a news link at Fox News). I have the children's accounts set up as "child" and "young teenager" by McAfee, but these adult popups were even occurring when they were logged in. But there have not been any popups so far today.
Here is a new HJT log. What else should I try to delete the WinFixer folder? Thank you.

Seems to be running ok. I am not getting the popups. But I still cannot delete the Win Fixer folder, even in safe mode. I tried twice. I keep getting the same error message.. "Cannot delete WFShell.dll. Access is denied."
Lets do some cleaning.

Download ccleaner from the link below, save it to your desktop. Open ccleaner and click on run ccleaner at the bottom right.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html

Next download Regseeker from the link below. Save it to your destop. Open Regseeker and click on clean registry, next click ok. Once the scan is complete make sure the make backups is checked and then select all and delete it.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2579.html

Next you neeed to clean out your system restore. You can do that by turning it off then back on

To turn off Windows XP System Restore:

NOTE: These instructions assume that you are using the default Windows XP Start Menu and have not changed to the Classic Start menu. To re-enable the default menu, right-click Start, click Properties, click Start menu (not Classic) and then click OK.

1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" as shown in this illustration:
5. Click Apply.
6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
7. Click OK.
8. Proceed with what you need to do; for example, virus removal. When you have finished, restart the computer and follow the instructions in the next section to turn on System Restore.

To turn on Windows XP System Restore:

1. Click Start.
2. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Uncheck "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives."
5. Click Apply, and then click OK.

How id it running now?
Done. Computer seems to be running better and I have not seen any annoying popups in a couple days. But I still couldn't delete the WinFixer folder, even after doing the cleaning. Is it essential that I get that folder deleted?
