Hey-
Can somebody look at this HJT for "Winfixer," specifically Vundo. I think it's causing popups and other problems. Not surely, there's alot of SP1 and Toshiba Satelittle specific issues, but I think I saw the small time virus Vundo in her HJT log file, and would love some expert advice here.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Quick question. When I get her laptop, she will say "But I already have Norton, and the updates are up-to-date." What should I say? My thought is "Your Norton may be corrupted itself. Ewido is better as well." Let me know. Thanks alot-

Norton is an anti virus for viruses and some spyware. Ewido is for trojans, spyware and ,alware. She can remove Ewido after the scans.

The reality is that no one tool an capture and clean everything. I use an anti virus and 3 on demand scanners (Ewido, ASquared & Microsft beta) to keep my system clean.

She restarted computer in safe mode, opened Ewido and clicked "scan." As soon as she clicked "scan," the computer powered off, by itself. This was exactly what happened in Ad-Aware as well. Other times her computer randomly powers off. So this random power off thing is either 1) malware of some sort or 2) toshiba satellite bug (her laptop make/model is toshiba satellite 4000) Unless somebody here sees something in her HijackThis log file, or has an idea, I'll reformat her hard drive tommorrow. Computer restarted, this time Ewido was scanning, about 170 items it found, but before it could finish, poof, computer turned off... I don't know if it's malware or laptop... This laptop may be overheating, after all. I've read the Toshiba Satellite A70/A75 (which she has) has major overheating issues, major ones. So it could be overheating. I wish I could get a full Ewido scan in and send Siggyx her Ewido log... I could have her do another HijackThis, to see if when she ran killvundo.exe if it worked or not... Oh man, what's it sound like Siggyx? Whatcha think? GiantBrandon

Please download Asquared from the link below.

http://www.emsisoft....tware/download/

Safe it to your desktop. Next open and check for updates.

Boot to safe mode (tap f8 while bios loads)

Then scan your system (this will take some time) after the scan is compelte allow it to fix what it has found. If there is something that it can not clean please let me know what it was.

Then reboot and post a new hijackthis log.
