Some notes I probably should add: I'm using a WinBook J1 notebook. I posted with this problem +- 20 monthes ago. Didn't get a response forever so moved on to other things. Since then I have tried to fix it with about ever software I could find. I can't update spybot or adaware. It won't let me load SP2. I run all the security stuff I have and get as clean as I can, get just to get online. I recently took the laptop into a computer repair shop and had to uninstall Avast just to get things to run this good (no help and -$110). I'm at my wits end.

Hello ouqtinvu, Welcome to the forum.

There's a new version of HijackThis.

Please delete any HijackThis Folders and Files you have now.

Please download this self extracting file to your My Downloads folder or My Received Files (dependent on your Operating System):

Click the "Save" button.

Navigate to My Documents>Chose My Downloads or My Received Files folder once inside that folder click "Save".

Now go to the folder you saved HijackThis_sfx.exe in.

Double click HijackThis_sfx.exe and select Unzip. When done click "OK".
Close the WinZip self Extractor window.

After the above:
This is what I suggest you do.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
[*]A new window will open...click the Check Now button
[*]Enter your Country
[*]Enter your State/Province
[*]Enter your e-mail address and click send
[*]Select either Home User or Company
[*]Click the big Scan Now button
[*]If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
[*]It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
[*]When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
[*]When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.4 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.06 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

1. Launch Ad-Aware SE and run the WebUpdate feature. (Click on the Globe icon > Click connect > Click OK > Click Finish.)
2. Set up the Configurations as follows:
-- Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window
-- Click General > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
-- Click Tweak > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
3. Click "Proceed"
4. Click "Scan Now"
5. Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
6. Select "Search for low-risk threats"
7. Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.
8. When the scan has completed, select Next.
9. In the Scanning Results window, select the "Scan Summary" tab.
10. Check the box next to each "target family" you wish to remove.
11. Click next > Click OK.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Ok LDTate, thanks for helping me out.
I went through the list.
Deleted HJT and loaded new.
Loaded Shredder - no CoolWeb Search found.
Loaded ETrust Antivirus - no viruses found.
Loaded Panda - Had some problems here, I couldn't get it to scan anything with >local disk or > my computer. I loaded Platinum 2006, uninstalled McAfee Virus Scan but still no scan.
Loaded Spybot 1.4 - deleted a few data miners
Loaded AdAware SE - deleted several more miners, etc.
Loaded ATF Cleaner - emptied all
Rebooted
Rescanned.
Currently things are about the same. When IE is opened there is a bogus navigation bar at the bottom of the page, somebody else's favorites in the fav file, things are a bit sluggish and lots of pop-ups when navigating.
Again,
Thanks.

Seem to have lost the nav bar at the bottom of the page. Browser start-up page defaults to 'search200.com' unless I set it to open blank. Still tons of pop-ups and favs still by others.

Hi LDTate
I do not know what the Great Wave\refproxybone file is.
Also, the last two times I scanned & fixed, there was nothing in the recycle bin to empty.
Still getting pop-ups, download windows, rogue favs, etc.
Thanks again for your help.

Great

If you didn't install that Great Wave folder, I'd delete everything in it, then delete the folder Great wave.

The R1 is usually killed by CWShredder. The weird names like this in the R1's are bad and need to go: www.njuivfqjraiywmrot.com/_JhGhaNtw...QOiFo7lqrhA.jsp

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.njuivfqjr...QOiFo7lqrhA.jsp

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart your computer.

Good Job

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.

Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
