Hey I've run ad-aware, spybot, regcleaner, defragged hard drive, but no real problems found. My comp is still running really slow, I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 notebook, and only like 8 gb of my 40gb hard drive is used up, not sure why its so slow. Please help!

blackeyelinerho, :D

Welcome to the forum, sorry about the delay but we are just overwhelmed with logs plus the fact that we look for logs with zero replies and by replying to yourself you took yourself out of that catagory.

At quick glance, I dont see to much wrong with your log, not to say something could be hidden that we cant see.

First it is very important that we move HJT to its own folder so we wont lose any backups when we use the program.

DO THIS FIRST
Your HIJACKTHIS program is current, but it is very important that it resides in its own folder.
We will use Hijackthis (HJT) to make changes to your system and HJT will make backups of those changes,
If HJT is not in its own folder, those backups could be lost.

Easy to fix,
* just go to MY COMPUTER > YOUR C:\ DRIVE and create a new folder and name it HIJACKTHIS .
* Now scroll to where you have HJT currently, right click on the HJT icon and select CUT .
* Now open the new folder you just created and right click within that folder and select PASTE .
* Now HJT should reside in C:\HIJACKTHIS\HIJACKTHIS.EXE

Download and install the 30 day trial of Ewido Anti-Malware
Ewido Anti-Malware
* Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop for it to double-click.
o Click on update
o You should see Update Complete when done.
o Now close out the program <– Dont run it yet

Reboot your computer into Safemode

* Go to START/ SHUT OF YOUR COMPUTER/ RESTART
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly, this will bring up a menu.
* Use the UP AND DOWN ARROW KEYS to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the ENTER KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD

o Now open up Ewido
* Click on scanner
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
* Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
* Click Save report.
* Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
* Close Ewido Security Suite.

Reboot normally

Download and Install CCleaner

* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < When it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes

http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp

We have a few entries to fix with HJT, but I dont want to do that until you move it to its own folder.

Please post back with the Ewido Report and a new HJT log.

Its a little better but still slow just trying to open folders. Do all the entries like messenger and netzero need to be there?
Who is your Internet Service Provider? Do you still use NetZero ? How do you access the internet? The reason I am asking is that the Netzero software is known for clogging up your system. Ken
OK, then go to the Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and remove NetZero, then post a new HJT log and we can see if it left any entries behind that we can clean up with HJT.

Go to Start> Control Panel> Add-Remove Programs

Lets clean up your system a little, you may have some temp files and such clogging you up also.

* Clean out your TEMP FILES
* This procedure should be run from SAFEMODE for better results.

To Enter SAFEMODE

* Go to START/ SHUT OF YOUR COMPUTER/ RESTART
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly, this will bring up a menu.
* Use the UP AND DOWN ARROW KEYS to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the ENTER KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD

While in the temp folders, if there are a file or files that wont delete, dont worry about it.

* Go to My Computer/ C: Drive/ Documents and Settings/ Every User on this Computer Local Settings/ and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder <– But not the temp folder itself

* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Temp and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder <– But not the temp folder itself

* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Prefetch and remove all the contents of the Prefetch Folder <–But not the Prefetch folder itself.

NOW RE-BOOT NORMALLY

* Open INTERNET EXPLORER
* Click on the TOOLS MENU
* Then INTERNET OPTIONS
* At the GENERAL TAB (which should be the first tab you are currently on),
* click on the DELETE FILES BUTTON and put a checkmark in DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT.
* Then press the OK BUTTON . This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes.
* When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Now Empty your Recycle Bin

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your
system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot your System

Turn ON System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* ClickProperties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

* Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You can name the restore point anything you like, something that you can remember

* Go to START/ CONTROL PANEL> PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE> REARRANGE ITEMS ON YOUR HARD DISK TO MAKE PROGRAMS RUN FASTER
This is the Windows Disk Defragger, run this maybe once or twice a month to keep your system running good. The first time you run it, it may take awhile.

Post back with a new HJT log and let me know if you think things have improved. If not there are other scans we can run to doublecheck your system.

Ken :D
Ha, thanks :P

I did everything except for:

* Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You can name the restore point anything you like, something that you can remember

* Go to START/ CONTROL PANEL> PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE> REARRANGE ITEMS ON YOUR HARD DISK TO MAKE PROGRAMS RUN FASTER
This is the Windows Disk Defragger, run this maybe once or twice a month to keep your system running good. The first time you run it, it may take awhile.
