Hello I have recently had a virus that has removed the welcome screen's, Screen saver (not the screen saver when you log on and can go to properties, screen saver tab and select. But the one where the blue screen says welcome and displays all the users.) Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem… Thanks RML
Just received an annoucement there was a response to this query, but it reads: WinconServer An unknown error occured while accessing an unnamed file— no message…………. :scratch:
Could't tell because there wasn't any correspondence with this. I have this info, and it doesn't correct the problem. The problem started first, with the screen saver that is supposed to come on when no users are logged in, disappeared. Is this called default screen saver or Logon screen saver? The next thing to happen was the fact , I cannot change any of the screen savers through properties , or through Control Pane. I can find all of these screen savers in System 32 & test them , but when I change them in desktop . or Control panel , they revert back to a downloaded screen saver. Thanks anyway…………….
I have Sptbot S & D . Ad- Aware SE Personal Plus.
The downloaded screen saver is : Screensandthemes Living Waterfall.

To configure Windows XP to use the classic logon and shutdown screens for every logon session, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click User Accounts.
3. Click Change the way users log on or off.
4. Clear the Use the Welcome screen check box.
Note If you turn off the Welcome logon screen, you also turn off the Fast User Switching option.
Thank you for responding & the advice,however what I'm trying to achieve here, is not to turn the Welcome screen off , I just wanted to know how to have the generic screen saver Windows XP- come on when there are no users logged on, also why can't I change the other screen savers through Desktop or Control Panel. I apologize if I'm unclear–( novice user here)……….
Try this first:

Click on "Desktop", "Customise Display…" and "Web".
In the box under "Web pages", select all the checkboxes and click "Delete".

If still not working, try this:

Please copy the contents of the following quote box into Notepad:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"WallpaperStyle"=-
"Wallpaper"=-
"NoDispBackgroundPage"=-
"NoDispAppearancePage"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"Wallpaper"=-
"WallpaperStyle"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoActiveDesktopChanges"=-
"NoActiveDesktop"=-
"NoSaveSettings"=-
"ClassicShell"=-
"NoThemesTab"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop]
"NoChangingWallPaper"=-

Save it to your desktop as fixme.reg

Then, locate fixme.reg on your desktop and it.

You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".

Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully"

Reboot.

Can you access/change the desktop now?
:unsure:
Sorry, trying to do the fixme.reg. I didn't have it saved to notepad at first, them got it saved, and tried to run & received this error message– hope this comes through as a scrrenshot attachment. If not the error message reads:

Please go to Task Manager > File > Run and and type copy/paste in this line:

regedit.exe /e c:\export.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe"

Then hit enter.

Then use Notepad to go to c:\export.txt

If you cannot find the file, please let me know that fact.
