Msconfig Does Not Show All Startup entries+AnnoyingMessege

Crow sent me back here. I have an annoying messege on my other accounts Not my administrator account but other user and guest. When account logged on notepad opens with {.ShellClassInfo}LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot\system32\shell32.dll,-21787
I was looking for this file in desktopini so I could delete it. It shows the same messege except for the last number. The number is 21786. I was in misconfig and found not all my startup items are showing.Yesterday there was no arrow and bar to scroll through items that start up in msconfig. Today the error is back, but something called desktop has added itself to the startup in msconfig.Can someone help get rid of this error and get msconfig back? ThankYou

Hi and welcome to the forum. :D

Step # 1

Please download and run CWShredder. Make sure that all browser windows are closed with the exception of Cwshredder and choose FIX.

Please download and run Spybot 1.4 & AdAware SE Then follow the instructions in the link below to run.

Step # 3

Then do a virus scan here >>> Trend Micro

Step # 4

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Hello thanks for welcome. new issue is windows security alert says zone alarm reports its disabled, but it appears to be working. It shows alerts anyway. Firefox would not open at all so i uninstalled it then reinstalled.
I nolonger have the annoying messege about shell resource error because I deleted it whatever it was. Here are the logs

Nothing odd in that log.

Click here to run ActiveScan.
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open…click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Paste the contents of the Panda scan report along with a new HijackThis Log in your next reply.

Hello:) Spybot found a firewall threat marked in red so it removed it. Trend Micro found 5 infected files and removed them. Here is the Panda report and new highjacklog.

Download TheKillbox from here http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip Save to your Desktop and double click it to open it up. In the 'Enter Full Path and Filename to Delete' box, copy and paste these entries one by one, clicking 'Find and Kill This File' after each one:

C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES\f3initialsetup1.0.0.15.inf

Next scan with hijackthis and put a check beside these lines and choose FIX

Then reboot and a new log please. How is it running after the reboot?

Thanks for staying with me. I would say my computer is running slower, maybe i should defrag or something. Here are the logs. Oh yes my yahoo page now looks more normal …. it looked different somehow be fore this last spycleanup. Firefox is still slow to open pages though.My startup inmsconfig is showing 8 items starting with z. They used to be in alphabetical order. I had been using selective startup to stop an item called desktop that I dont know what it was.

Lets do some cleaning.

Download ccleaner from the link below, save it to your desktop. Open ccleaner and click on run ccleaner at the bottom right.

Next download Regseeker from the link below. Save it to your destop. Open Regseeker and click on clean registry, next click ok. Once the scan is complete make sure the make backups is checked and then select all and delete it.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. In my signature below is also a tutorial on how to harden IE, a good read and very helpful to stop these things in the future. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.
