Searched for 4 days and tried 6 different methods here to get my taskbar back. I use WinXP, and tried the Aston shell program, switched shells back to Win, then something skitched and the PC crashed. After auto-reboot, the taskbar was gone. First, I tried dragging from the bottom of the screen to see if the thing was just reduced; searched the 3 other sides of the screen, re-sized my res to see if it was out-of-bounds, ctrl-esc'd and dabbled with all the tb settings, then rebooted. Ctrl-alt-del & turned explorer on & off & another reboot. I added a second account, gave it admin status and switched, and everything's working perfectly with the 2nd account. I switch back and still no tb. After this, I deleted Aston from everything including the registry, rebooted, and still nothing. Dl'd the XP Taskbar Desktop Fixall and the TB pops into view for just a moment, then goes away again. Cleaned out my cookies and temp-web log, then ran Xoftspy & found a bunch (around 34) bad guys including a trojan waiting to be popped open, and did a quarantine. Rebooted again and same thing. Went into regedit and deleted the StuckRects2 key from the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ StuckRects] string, then rebooted, and nothing. (Re-checked the reg to see if the key regenerated, which it did) Re-ran the fixall after all this and got the same results. Incidentally, there is a fixed invisible space at the bottom where the tb should be and icons disappear behind, and it does visibly appear for about 1 minute after every reboot. I'm thinking it's just a number-adjustment in the reg key, but that's just a wild guess… Any new info or help would be hugely appreciated!
Alright, try this and tell me if it works, then we can move on from there. Go Ctrl+Alt+Del and the Task Manager should appear. Next go File > New Task and in that window, type explorer.exe and hit enter. Do this and tell me if you can see your taskbar.
Thanks for the reply. Tried the 'run explorer' again and nothing but My Computer shows up. TB doesn't even flash on. Also; tried changing the windows appearance through Display about an hour ago, TB shows up after the change for about 2 seconds, then disappears yet again…
