Hi CGBusch.

Your version of HijackThis is outdated. Download the latest version of HijackThis and post a logfile:

• Download the latest version of HijackThis.
• Create a folder named "HijackThis". To create a folder:
  • Go to My Documents.
  • Right-click and select New> Folder.
  • Name the folder as "HijackThis".
• Extract the contents of hijackthis.zip into the folder you've just created.
• Open HijackThis.exe
• Click on "Do a system scan and save a logfile".
• After the scan is complete a Notepad window will popup.
• In the Notepad window, go to Edit> Select all and then Edit> Copy.
• Paste the log into your next reply.

Do NOT fix anything until we check your log. You can cause serious damage to your operating system if you fix a valid entry.

Hi CGBusch,

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so! This Fix must NOT be run in safe mode for it to work.

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Hi CGBusch,

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. It will process then start. Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so! Do Not run in safe mode!!
If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
• Click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
• Turn your computer back on.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

This indicates a Rootkit issue with your PC. Please read the following.

Rootkits are extremely hard to detect, and just as hard to clean out. You have to think that from this point forward, you can't trust your computer. It has been fitted with a rootkit+ a remote access trojan. That is all it takes for someone to secretly steal your financial info, or do ANYTHING they want to do with the computer. To tell the truth, the only SURE way to beat the bug is to reformat. As the post says, the problem with rootkits is that it is quite impossible to know exactly what has been compromised. The closer a rootkit comes to the system, the more power it has the easier it can hide things from you. You may think that you found all, but it could still be hiding parts of itself somewhere else.

This is why a reformat is recommended.

I just wanted to thank you all for your advice and help. I did end up totally reformatting my pc and it is working wonderful now. It was the extreme case but it worked thank you.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.
