Opened for me, I had to approve soem activex files but that was it

Hmmmm, worked in both IE & Firefox for me. Do you have a software firewall running LD & aselene?

Well LDTate,

WinsockXpFix.exe worked like a charm.
EXCEPT that it was unable to backup the registry.
I did an export to a folder of the entire registry.
But can now access the problematical web site.

Thanks to both of you for your help.

All three of us helped a young lady return to
college with a working laptop.

Get a copy of winsockxpfix.exe You just run it and
things should work OK after it reboots your system.

I've just re-installed SpySweeper and am running a
(carefully watched) sweep to get it on record.

Thanks again to you both and thanks for hangin in there
with me. You threw a bunch of utilities at me I probably
wouldn't have had the guts to try cold-turkey like that.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. In my signature below is also a tutorial on how to harden IE, a good read and very helpful to stop these things in the future. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.
