I recently had my computer hijacked, and need assistance to get it back to normal.

I ran AVG anti-virus, and it noticed that "c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll" was "changed."

I noticed that there are several local services that are starting/running that should not be there, including:

* mssearchnet.exe
* nvctrl.exe
* mscornet.exe
* wbecomm.dll
* and others keep popping up

I checked for files that were changed today, and there are several that appear in the c:\windows\system32 folder that were changed/added.

When I start Internet Explorer, it keeps trying to go to some pages, including: www.dns404.net

The application "SpyAxe 3.0" installed on my computer without my permission/knowledge.

In the taskbar, this error message now appears constantly:

Your computer is infected!
Dangerous malware infection was detected on your PC
The system will now download and install most efficient
antimalware program to prevent data loss and your private
information theft.

I am very afraid that my passwords/accounts and other personal data has been compromised.

Please help ASAP.

Problem solved.

My computer was infected by "SpyAxe" Trojan virus.

I used the solution at: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic36868.html
and it worked marvelously!

If you notice the same symptoms I experienced:
* taskbar pop-up "Your computer is infected with malware"
* processes "mssearchnet.exe, nvctrl.exe, mscornet.exe, wbeconm.dll" running and cannot be removed
* IE tries to access odd pages (such as "www.dns404.net" when it is first started

then you may have the same problem and the solution I used may help you out.
