Hello Beth and welcome to TomCoyote forums. You have some real nasties on your computer. If you still need help, and are not receiving it elsewhere, I would like you to do this:

1) Return to C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\HIJACKTHIS.EXE <<< Right click your mouse on a blank spot and make a new folder called HJT. Move the HijackThis.exe into that folder. It will then look like this: C:\WINDOWS\HJT\HIJACKTHIS.EXE and be a safe permanent folder to store logs and backups. If you need more instructions, use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

2) You have a CoolWebSearch infection. Download, check for update and run CWShredder from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popu…WShredder.shtml Make sure you choose FIX then allow the program to run and remove anything it locates. Post the results of the scan for me to view.

3) Review this information: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen…are.istbar.html then download and run the tool: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxIstbar.exe

4) Post a new HJT log in permanent folder and I will respond as soon as possible after that. We will have more to do.

Thanks…pskelley

Hi pskelley,
Thanks for your help. I followed the instructions above and the cool web scan said that it found nothing.
I also followed step number 3 and it said it deleted one item and would delete one more on reboot.
I hope that my new log is okay. I moved the hijack this.exe to its own folder but it seems to keep opening it from the original temporary location.
Sadly, I am not very computer savvy and I apologize if I am making it difficult to assist me. I have posted the new log below.
Happy New Year.

Hi Beth, and I do understand. We all had to learn computers from scratch and there was a day when I knew nothing. CWShredder removed these lines:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://wXw.blussy.com/index2.html
This was the CWS infection. So you can understand, when something is in the Temp folder here: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\HIJACKTHIS.EXE then it is by design a temporary item and if we clean out the Temp stuff we will delete HJT also. When we use HJT to remove stuff as we will next, it makes backups for us so that if an error is made we can fix it with the backups. This is why it is so important we get HJT in a permanent folder. Here are some links to show you how to do this, there are two examples to accomplish the same thing. Once you have HJT in this new permanent folder, then you can proceed.
http://www.netstar.me.uk/hjt/hjt.html
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial94.html

Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php
The newest version of Ad-aware is 1.06 and Spybot 1.04. Even if you have these programs, use the link to get the newest version, update and configure them as in the link. Run Spybot first, reboot then run Ad-aware. Both programs back up what they remove so delete anything the programs say should be removed.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Tell me how the computer is running now.
This tutorial is an old version but it may help: http://uk.geocities.com/cleanandprotected/…n_tutorial.html

Thanks…Phil
Phil, Wow - my computer is running great. I cant thank you enough for all of your help. My husband is so impressed that I was able fix the computer. I told him that its only because your instructions were so clear and easy to follow. I really appreciate all of your help. My husband has a paypal account and he is going to make a donation to the site. Fondly, Beth S
Hi Beth, We are all volunteers but I as sure Tom can use anything he gets as running a site like this must cost plenty. You are certainly welcome and it is your thanks that I work for. Some of my last instructions above were these:

Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Tell me how the computer is running now.

I really need to see that last HJT log to make sure everything worked properly. I do not want to leave any malware on your computer. I also have some valuable information to give you as soon as I know you are clean.

Thanks…Phil
