Hi people...

I'm new here, this is my 1st post... :)

I was having some popups from winfixer, then I updated my Windows XP Media Center to SP2, to have windows latest updates to then, try to remove the winfixer problem. But now, everytime I connect to internet my connection seems to last only a few minutes, then nothing else works. But no, the connection doesn't disconnect, it stays connected but I can't open any page... the msn messenger stays connected but then I can't send msgs anymore... I have to restart the computer, connect again and use it for a few more minutes, then it stop working again :(

Could that be caused by a malware? :o(

My hijackthis log is the following:

Welcome to the forum.

You're loaded with malware, will you able to download and run some programs?

If not can you download them on another computer - burn them to a cd and transfer to your computer?

Let me know, and we'll proceed - MrC

Hi MrCharlie...

Yes... I can download any program... In the meantime I uninstalled the SP2, now, at least my connection is working fine :) I can't use IE, but Opera is doing fine. Since I'm using SP1 here's is the actual log from HiJackThis. Just tell me what I have to download and install and I'll do...

Thank you so much for helping....

Before starting - PLEASE make sure you have system restore running and a good system restore point to go back to (even if you create one now) in case something goes wrong during the cleanup and fix. (and they do!)

----------------------

Do you recognize this:
C:\Program Files\Yahoo! Acesso Grátis\baloon.exe

--------------------------

Please move HJT into its own permanent folder so backups can be made and found.
example: C:\MyHJT\HJT.exe, C:\Program Files\MYHJT\HJT.exe or C:\MyDocuments\MyHJT\HJT.exe

--------------------------------

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

----------------------------

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.

  • Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkjj.dll

  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.

  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\jjkkj.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

Please move HJT out of that temp folder and into its own permanent folder so backups can be made and found.
example: C:\MyHJT\HJT.exe, C:\Program Files\MYHJT\HJT.exe or C:\MyDocuments\MyHJT\HJT.exe

------------------------------------

2. Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the service called:
DcomHelper Service

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows. If you don´t find this service listed go ahead with the next steps.

Close ALL programs down, leaving ONLY HijackThis running - Click Scan and.....
Place a check against the following items:

O2 - BHO: ATLDistrib Object - {93C6313C-9DB4-4694-8BD0-E378C573A9AD} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\jkkjj.dll (file missing)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkkjj - C:\WINDOWS\System32\jkkjj.dll (file missing)
O23 - Service: DcomHelper Service (DcomHelper) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\dcmhelp.exe (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Delete these files if found:
C:\api39.exe
C:\WINDOWS\dcmhelp.exe
nslookup32.exe <---please search for these
valuex.exe
windrvmgr.exe

Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:
sc delete DcomHelper Service
Click Ok.

Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and we'll take another look. MrC

I may be wrong, but the log look a lot better now :-) Not only that, my notebook too, things are running smoother and the boot is alot faster :)

One question: I use Lavasoft Ad-Ware and Spyware Doctor to protect me from all this stuff, but it seems they failed :( What would be a better one for replacing those?

Thanks again :)

Well Done  The log looks clean! :D

If you have any questions - please post back

I'll leave you with........

Some preventive maintenance:

------------------Must have or do:-----------------

Now that you're clean: <----Important Step!!!!
Delete your system restore files and create a new restore point:
(ME and XP users only)

XP system restore

ME system restore

Visit Windows Update and install all the lastest critical updates.

Install these two free programs, they sit in the backround and protect your system from spy and adware being installed on your system, also from your browser being hijacked.

SpywareBlaster Check for updates weekly.

SpywareGuard

IE-SPYAD
Puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone, so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
IE-SPYAD

Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File

Need a free anti virus?
AVG*free
(check for updates - daily)

How about a firewall? The front door to your computer.
ZoneAlarm*free

Other free firewalls

Keep those temp files off your system use
CCleaner
Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".

Keep your Sun Java up-to-date

----------Free malware removal programs:----------

SpyBot
AD-Aware
CW-Shredder

Ewido trojan scanner<---VERY GOOD! (XP and 2K only)

Please consider using FireFox instead of Internet Explorer

Pop-up stoppers:
GoogleToolBar
Pop-upStopperFree

Disable Windows MessengerXP - 2K (stops pop-up ads -etc):
Disabling Messenger Service in Windows XP
How to Remove Windows Messenger on Windows XP
How to Remove Windows Messenger on Windows XP
Shoot The Messenger

Don't open e-mail attachments without first scanning them with an up-to-date
anti virus program, even after doing that I would be very careful. Don't click on any executables in e-mails or any other links that you're not sure of.
Watch your surfing habits, don't click on or download anything you're not sure of. Don't install a program that hasn't been recommended by a reputable organization.

Good luck and thanks for using the forum - MrC
