My system has become VERY slow all of a sudden. Does anyone see anything in this log that could cause this. Thanks.

Hello sackerbill, Welcome to the forum.

This is what I suggest you do.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.4 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.06 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

1. Launch Ad-Aware SE and run the WebUpdate feature. (Click on the Globe icon > Click connect > Click OK > Click Finish.)
2. Set up the Configurations as follows:
-- Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window
-- Click General > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
-- Click Tweak > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
3. Click "Proceed"
4. Click "Scan Now"
5. Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
6. Select "Search for low-risk threats"
7. Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.
8. When the scan has completed, select Next.
9. In the Scanning Results window, select the "Scan Summary" tab.
10. Check the box next to each "target family" you wish to remove.
11. Click next > Click OK.

Thanks LDTate,

I have updated Adware and spybot and have posted a new log here.

As far as how my system is acting, it's VERY slow when rebooting and when opening any programs. It takes about 8-10 minutes to reboot and when I go to any programs it takes forever to open them. It also takes outlook express about 10 minutes to open and get e-mails.

Here's the new log. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Okay here's a new log.

I deleted everything you suggested in the last post except for the Logitech stuff because I use their cordless keyboard and mouse and was afraid if I deleted them it would mess the use of them up.

The system is still very slow upon rebooting and when opening programs.

I just upgraded my Mcafee virus protection and firewall a couple weeks ago and it seems this all started shortly after that. Could this have something to do with my problem or is it just coincidence?

Here's the new log. Thanks.

Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2 I just noticed you version of HJT is way outdated:

Please delete any HijackThis Folders and Files you have now.

Please download this self extracting file to your My Downloads folder or My Received Files (dependent on your Operating System):

[URL=http://www.forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=112[/URL]

Click the "Save" button.

Navigate to My Documents>Chose My Downloads or My Received Files folder once inside that folder click "Save".

Now go to the folder you saved HijackThis_sfx.exe in.

Double click HijackThis_sfx.exe and select Unzip. When done click "OK".
Close the WinZip self Extractor window.

Open HijackThis and select: Do a system scan and save a log file.

When the scan is finished, Click Edit> Select All> Edit> Copy> and paste its contents here [Add Reply].

The forum is run by volunteers who donate their time and expertise.

just upgraded my Mcafee virus protection and firewall a couple weeks ago and it seems this all started shortly after that. Could this have something to do with my problem

Yes.

These aren't needed at startup and are Resource hogs:
Name Status Filename Description
LDM backweb-8876480.exe, ldmconf.exe Installed with the software for Logitech products. Automatically checks for software upgrades AND new products, services and special offerings from Logitech. Also listed under Logitech Desktop Messenger

Logitech Desktop Messenger backweb-8876480.exe, ldmconf.exe Installed with the software for Logitech products. Automatically checks for software upgrades AND new products, services and special offerings

click Start> Run> type in Msconfig tap enter key.
look in the Startup. Uncheck these if listed:
LDM
Logitech Desktop Messenger

After you uncheck it,when you restart, you'll be using Selective startup.
When you see the box popup that tells you that, just put a Check in the Box to not show that when you startup. That's how I run mine.

Please download hoster from the link below.

http://www.funkytoad...load/hoster.zip

Unzip Hoster.zip
Open Hoster.exe.

Then click on "Restore Original Hosts"

Close program when complete.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] \Program\BackWeb-8876480.exe

O4 - Startup: Logitech Desktop Messenger.lnk = C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LDMConf.exe

O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com (HKLM)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Empty Recycle Bin

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Please download System Security Suite. Extract it from the zip file into a folder.
Run as illustrated here.

Let me know if that helped.

Still didn't help. I have some more mcafee stuff in msconfig that comes on at startup. I think I'll start unchecking those one at a time and rebooting to see if one of those may be causing my problem. Is there anything else you can think of that could be causing this? Frustration is really starting to set in.

Your log is clean. You'll want to leave the Firewall and Anti-Virus running. I don't know what all mcafee installs. Sorry we couldn't get it speeded up enough.
