Hi there!

I hope that one of you guys can help me with this. Yesterday I got some problems with my CPU. It somehow installed the "UnspyPC" program on my HD, and with that came some sort of trojan (that Norton Antivirus caught and, according to the program, blocked).

This UnSpyPC program finds a lot of spyware that it wants me to remove but, ofcourse, I have to pay them $39.95 to do so. Since they're the ones who put this garbage into my CPU in the first place I'm naturally not inclined to give my money away to them.

When I try running a full system scan on Norton Antivirus the program stops (always at a "Temporary internet files" folder created in my user on C:\documents and settings\my user\\). The same thing goes for Spybot and Adaware. Somehow this little sucker blocks the antivirus and antispyware programs from accessing it. Also, I can't access the suspicious folder from "My Computer", because it shuts down that program when I open the folder. I have also got a "nice" new toolbar and a couple of new favourite links in my internet explorer.

Here's my log from HiJackThis:

Any tips would be greatly appreciated because I can't figure out how to get rid of this on my own.
Hello LJLJ, welcome to the TC.

Are you located in the Ukraine?

This is what I suggest you do.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.4 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.06 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

1. Launch Ad-Aware SE and run the WebUpdate feature. (Click on the Globe icon > Click connect > Click OK > Click Finish.)
2. Set up the Configurations as follows:
– Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window
– Click General > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
– Click Tweak > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
3. Click "Proceed"
4. Click "Scan Now"
5. Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
6. Select "Search for low-risk threats"
7. Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.
8. When the scan has completed, select Next.
9. In the Scanning Results window, select the "Scan Summary" tab.
10. Check the box next to each "target family" you wish to remove.
11. Click next > Click OK.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi there, and thanks for replying!

I'm located in Sweden.

I've tried scanning my system with Spybot and Adaware after downloading the latest updates. I found some new stuff that I hadn't found before, but this didn't help my core problem. When I rebooted after doing this the CPU froze upon entering Windows. The desktop loaded as normal, but clicking on icons didn't work. I also couldn't access the start menu. When I moved the cursor down into the bar on the lowest part of the screen (is it called the activity bar?), the cursor changed into the hourglass, suggesting that it was working on something. I then cut the power and rebooted again - this time things were working as normal, but I still couldn't access the temporary internet files in my documents&settings\myuser\temp\ folder. When I tried to do that the program (my computer) was automatically shut down.

Also; when I first scanned using Adaware SE I did it with just the default settings, and the program froze when it examined that particular folder (temporary internet files). The same thing happened with Norton Antivirus and Panda Active Scan. I don't know what it is, but there's something strange in that folder… I thought I'd do a full system scan using Norton in safe mode, but Norton doesn't work in safe mode (some problem with "Norton Integrator"…).

Anyway; here's my new HJT log:

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated since I don't know how to move on. It seems that whatever I've got blocks all attempts to access it, be it from an antivirus program or the windows explorer.
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [mozilla-text] abrek.exe I'm fairly certain that the file "abrek.exe" could have something to with this. However, I don't know how to get rid of it as I can't find the file. When I search for it the windows search program shuts down when it's scanning that temporary internet files directory…
Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, click on the Scanner run a full scan and let it clean everything it finds. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
Thanks for the tip. There's one problem though. I downloaded Ewido Security and updated it, but when I ran the full system scan in safe mode the same thing that happened with Norton and Panda happened. When the scan came to "C:\\documents and settings\My User\Local settings\temp\temporary internet files\" the program was shut down automatically. There's something very fishy about that specific folder - I'm not even certain that there should be a temporary internet files folder on that specific location… Anyway, whatever it is that has infected my CPU, it's smart enough to know when something's trying to get rid of it. Any tips on how I can manage to identify and kill this trojan (or whatever it might be) would be hugely appreciated.
I can also add that the adware part of this infection has been removed. I no longer have a banner in my internet explorer, and my favourite links have been restored to their original form.

Would you say that it would be a good or a bad idea to let HJT delete the following stuff? : O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [UnSpyPC] "C:\Program\UnSpyPC\UnSpyPC.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TRPT] Shaitan1678.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [mozilla-text] abrek.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [NSYSCPLSTR] syspanel.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [syspanel] scanSYS.exe All of these .exe files are listed as parts of trojans on various sites on the internet. I just can't figure out how to gain access to the actual files.
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, Hijack This will launch. Close Hijack This, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new Hijack This log.
