AS you can probably see I run vet which tells me that it has issolated 7 trojans but continually tells me to run a scan.
I also have avast running which tells me the same as vet.

One question that has been on my mind for awhile is do I need both avast and vet?
Avast does seem to slow my pc somewhat and they both detected the trojans at the same time.

I look forward to your responses.
Ta. Munganah.

Hello munganah, welcome to the TC.

One question that has been on my mind for awhile is do I need both avast and vet?
Avast does seem to slow my pc somewhat and they both detected the trojans at the same time.

No. You should only run 1 Anti-Virus program at a time.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, click on the Scanner run a full scan and let it clean everything it finds. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

The forum is run by volunteers who donate their time and expertise.

I suggest you do this:

See here about AdwareAlert
http://www.spywarewa...nti-spyware.htm

Use Add/Remove Programs and remove:
AdwareAlert

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdwareAlert] C:\Program Files\AdwareAlert\AdwareAlert.Exe -boot

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

1. Open My Computer
2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
6. A box will display the various files you can remove.
Check all boxes except compress old files (If listed)
7. Click OK and windows will comply.

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

The forum is run by volunteers who donate their time and expertise.

Want to help others? Join the ClassRoom and learn how.

I should've said before, that after the first scan with ewido, I noticed an increase in processor speed and it seems to be better again after that last scan/removal.
Thanks for the info on adwarealert. I only downloaded that a few days ago in my efforts to remove these bugs and then released it wasnt what i wanted.I had already removed it but that link was very informative.
I should've known it was a scam cause I already use adaware se personal, derr!
I also do the disc clean up that you suggested about once a month, should I be doing this more often?
I have also disabled avast for the time being and have noticed an increase in the internet speed but not much.
:)

Be sure to keep SunJava, updated

In Add/Remove programs click on these and press *remove* if listed:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 - 97.99Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2 - 143.00Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 - 144.00Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5- 151.00Mb
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_04 - 130.00Mb
Or any other outdated J2SE

It is important to remove older versions as these are the ones with the holes in them. You will be surprised when you go to add/remove to see all of the versions sitting there.

Download Newest >>>> http://www.java.com/...nload/index.jsp

Once installed you can test to see that it is in fact installed >>>>

Sun Java Test

Sun Microsystems has fixed five security bugs in Java that expose computers running Linux, Solaris and Windows to hacker attack.

Let me know if this removes Vet issues.

Still no joy unfortunately. The morning my pc recognised the virus, I had downloaded a version of java the evening previous. I assumed this was where the virus came from so I went and deleted java and all assoc. programs I did however just realise that when my pc was set up I had a mirror drive installed( I think that is what it is called) So I have my c/ drive which is like the normal information storage drive and then I have an f/ drive that was a mirror of c/, I think.....Maybe it's called a split drive where there is a partition in the hard drive or something...............I know I only have a 40 gig hard drive and c/ drive only has a capacity of a little under 25 gig, f/ drive makes up about 12 gig. Anyway, just run a vet scan of f/ drive and it's totally clean. The only thing on f/ is windows, vet and adaware. Can I populate f/drive with everything on c/ drive one at a time or something to isolate these trojans? I think this is what the f/ drive was set up to do, to protect me if I ever got a virus that couldnt be removed. I'm just not sure on how to go about using it.

By name and location, do you mean within the computer? The vet log gives this as the location. C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\count.jar-4ef836e7-6b474094.zip>BlackBox.class (Java.ByteVerify!exploit trojan) C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\count.jar-4ef836e7-6b474094.zip>VerifierBug.class (Java.ByteVerify!exploit trojan) C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\count.jar-4ef836e7-6b474094.zip>Dummy.class (Java.ByteVerify!exploit trojan) C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\count.jar-4ef836e7-6b474094.zip>Beyond.class (Java.Shinwow.AT trojan)

Well, that looks like it got them! Thank you very much. :D Do you think I should just stick with adaware and my vet? It probably doesnt make any difference,(to the spyware/virus scanners) but I run reg fix about once a month also. Is avast just overkill? Also is the registered version of ewido free? Is it ok to have all these programs on my system as long as I dont run them together?. Incase I get a virus that one program may not remove but another program will. Or are they all the same? Sorry about all the questions, tell me to get stuffed if you like! :wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.

Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:

OMG! My system is running perfect now. Clearing the cache also reduced the scan time by 3/4. Instead of 45 mins+ to run a scan it only takes 12 mins!,wow. I will get those virus scanners that you recommended, thanks. Have been reading heaps here about spyware, very informative. I think I was a bit naive when it comes to malware and such. Thanks again for your help. I've learnt heaps. Munganah.
