Hello August, Welcome to the forum.

This is what I suggest you do.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.4 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.06 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

1. Launch Ad-Aware SE and run the WebUpdate feature. (Click on the Globe icon > Click connect > Click OK > Click Finish.)
2. Set up the Configurations as follows:
-- Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window
-- Click General > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
-- Click Tweak > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
3. Click "Proceed"
4. Click "Scan Now"
5. Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
6. Select "Search for low-risk threats"
7. Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.
8. When the scan has completed, select Next.
9. In the Scanning Results window, select the "Scan Summary" tab.
10. Check the box next to each "target family" you wish to remove.
11. Click next > Click OK.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Okay, I ran all of the above, and fixed some of the problems they found. I ran the scans several times after, and they all came up clean. But, I am still having some issues. When my pc first started acting up, it messed with my Norton Anti-Virus. I don't know if it corrupted some of the Norton files or what. So, I uninstalled Norton after running the virus/spyware scans, and re-installed it. And, I still am getting the same problems. When I open Norton and check the status, it says that my auto-protect is off (and I can't enable it...I click the 'enable' button, and it does nothing...no error message or anything), and my e-mail scanning shows an error. (However, it still does virus scans with no error.) The other issue that was there previous to the scanning (and is still there) is that anytime I right-click on any item in one of my directories ( and sometimes when I just double-click), I get a pop-up from Windows Installer saying that it is preparing to install. I usually click 'cancel' like three times, and I can achieve my purpose in getting the right-click options. However, if I let it continue to install, it goes into Windows configuring Symantec Antivirus, and finally ends up at the message: The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk that is not available. Select the Symantec Anti-Virus disk and click OK, and has a form that says 'Use feature from:' <<Drop-down list>> and the only option is '1'. Now, a little extra info that might shed some light on this subject: I had Symantec Corporate Edition on my pc from a while back, but never used it. I used the Norton Anti-virus. And, I don't know which it is trying to install....but, this is becoming a very annoying issue for everytime I want to right-click on a file in my directory. Beside that, my pc is running ok...maybe a little slower, but no lock-up's or unexpected shut-down's. But, I am at a loss for what to do with this. If I can't find any answers, I will have to go through the tedious task of copying my thousands of files I need (I'm a web designer), and re-formatting. Got Answers? If you do, you da man/wo-man! Please help! Here is my new HJThis log...thanks in advance (you guys are great)

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, click on the Scanner run a full scan and let it clean everything it finds. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

The forum is run by volunteers who donate their time and expertise.

I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com

O16 - DPF: {1D0D9077-3798-49BB-9058-393499174D5D} - file://c:\counter.cab

O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://a1540.g.akama...meInstaller.exe

O23 - Service: wixpro (wixpro) - Unknown owner - C:\RECYCLER\lsass.exe (file missing)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Open c:\counter.cab <--Delete File

1. Open My Computer
2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
6. A box will display the various files you can remove.
Check all boxes except compress old files (If listed)
7. Click OK and windows will comply.

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

The forum is run by volunteers who donate their time and expertise.

....

I still cannot get rid of the wixpro file in C:\recycler\lsass.exe ( I did as you said 2 times just to make sure).

Do this: It could be the bad guy is hidding in the Restore Area. If this doesn't do it. we'll try another fix.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

C:\Windows\system32\lsass.exe.

That one is OK.

Download Pocket Killbox version 2.0.0.175
http://www.atribune....ads/KillBox.exe
If you already have Killbox first ensure it is this version !.

Restart your computer in Safe Mode.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Start Killbox, Use standard file kill.(default settings).
Copy this whole list into the windows clipboard, all the Bolded below.

C:\RECYCLER\lsass.exe

Back in Killbox go > file > paste from clipboard, now click the red X
that looks like a stop sign, wait until a success message appears.
Repeat those same step's until each file has been deleted.

Note: if a file cannot be deleted [x] check delete on reboot, then go back to
standard file kill for the next file in the list.

Exit Killbox.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O23 - Service: wixpro (wixpro) - Unknown owner - C:\RECYCLER\lsass.exe (file missing)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Okay, when I ran killbox in safe-mode, as was told, It told me that that file did not exist. I did hijack this in safe-mode with the scan-only, and clicked fix. I rebooted in normal mode, and it re-appeared as usual. My computer is behaving the same. This bites big booty! I really need 'direction to perfection' . Here's my log...
P.S. Did I ever tell you you're my hero?

P.S. Did I ever tell you you're my hero?

:D

Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK

Click the Extended tab.

Scroll down until you find wixpro

Click once on the service to highlight it.

Click Stop

Right-Click on the service.

Click on 'Properties'

Select the 'General' tab

Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box

From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'

Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'

The service is now stopped and disabled.

Open C:\RECYCLER\lsass.exe <--Delete File

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Okay, that seemed to work with that file, but I still am having some problems with the behavior of my pc. It is still doing the right-clicking windows installer thingy....(yea that's what I said) that I told you about earlier. I really think that it has to do something with when I had the virus and it corrupted some of the files for my Norton AntiVirus & Symantec Corporation. I mean, I don't know a lot....that's purely a guess. But, the Windows Installer is trying to install something for that. And, like I said, I right-click on any file/program/shortcut/Almost Anything and it pops-up with the Windows Installer....'preparing to install'. I usually just cancel the installation just to get to the right-click options on the file/program. After clicking 'cancel' several times, I finally get those options. But, when I let it proceed instead of canceling, it proceeds to gather information for installing Symantec AntiVirus. Then, it goes on to say that 'The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the Symantec AntiVirus disk and click OK. Use feature from:
<<drop-down list>>
<<(the only) option>>1
<<browse button>>
So, I click 'cancel', and I get an error message: Symantec AntiVirus
Error 1706. No valid source code could be found from product Symantec AntiVirus. The Windows Installer could not continue. <<OK button>>

I have uninstalled & reinstalled Norton 3 times, and everytime it's the same problems. I open it up, and as the status refreshes, it says that 'Auto-Protect' is OFF (and I can't enable it...it does nothing clicking the enable button), and 'E-Maill Scanning' is ERROR.

...yea...I have a headache the size of my entire brain now. Anyway, here's my new log....if you can help...I might just need to go ahead and do the dirty of reformatting. Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Symantec and Norton's are one and the same. Did you uninstall them both? Are they the Free versions?

yea, but they are different editions. I have Norton Antivirus 2004, and Symantec Corporate Edition. No they are not free. I had Symantec Corporation installed way back when my ex installed it, and I have a subscription to Norton AntiVirus. I removed all instances that I knew to uninstall in the control panel, deleted all folders under program files referencing to Symantec (Norton), and rebooted. Installed just Norton AntiVirus 2004, and scanned. It scans fine. It's just the Auto-Protect is OFF (and I can't enable it), and the E-Mail Scanning shows an error. And, I've done this 3 times (re-booting is so sllloooww) installing and reinstalling. So......it just seems hopeless at this point. Does my log look okay now?
