I have lately been affected by a number of pop-ups and ads, which I am unable to get rid of. I have used AdAware and Spybot, and eliminated all the bugs they pointed out to me. Yet a fair amount of them still plagues my computer. I would appreciate some help.
Please note: I use Firefox as a browser.
By the way, I posted yesterday a message similar to this. It appeared regularly, I never got an answer, yet it has been now cancelled from the forum.
Here is my HijackThis log:

If you still require assistance.
Please scan with spybot and ad-aware again and post another log.

For Spybot: Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D
Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.
Restart your computer.

For Ad-Aware FULL SCAN: Install the program and launch it.

1. Launch Ad-Aware SE and run the WebUpdate feature. (Click on the Globe icon > Click connect > Click OK > Click Finish.)
2. Set up the Configurations as follows:
-- Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window
-- Click General > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
-- Click Tweak > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
3. Click "Proceed"
4. Click "Scan Now"
5. Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
6. Select "Search for low-risk threats"
7. Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.
8. When the scan has completed, select Next.
9. In the Scanning Results window, select the "Scan Summary" tab.
10. Check the box next to each "target family" you wish to remove.
11. Click next > Click OK.

Restart your computer again scan with Hijackthis and post another log.

Open SpyBot, check for and get any updates available, close all browsers, check for problems and fix everything found.
Then on the toolbar menu select mode and switch to advanced mode, on the left lower down select tools, and view report.
Ensure all the options are unchecked except, include system information in report. Attach or copy paste the log into this topic.

I do need assistance, and I thank you for this. But before I post my new HyjackThis log, I would like to apologize for posting two messages at short distance. The fact is however that, being a newbie, I had, and still have, difficulties going back to my original post, to check if there are any answers; and at that time, since I could not find it, I was convinced that my original post, for unknown reasons, had been deleted. If you can give me directions on how I can solve this problem, this will be much appreciated.
Now, my new HijackThis log, taken, as per your instructions, after running first Spybot and then AdAware:

Thank you again for the information and for the help. As you requested I scanned first with AdAware and then with Spy Sweeper. At this time I have both those programs running. Is this recommended?
Here is my new HijackThis log:

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following,

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

Check these two files please.

Follow their process tree. Right click on the file and go to Properties.
Then go to the Version tab to see what company name it's from:
If it's from some name you never heard of or if it's blank, lit me know

C:\DOCUME~2\Toti\LOCALS~1\Temp\~~NXTEMP\DUNMon
C:\Programmi\Winamp509\winampa.exe

Before I post my new log, I wish to tell you that after the scan with SpySweeper I did before my previous post, the situation with adware and popups has considerably improved. I now have very few of them, to the point that I consider the situation almost acceptable. And I wish to thank you for this, even if no additional improvements could be obtained.
Now, according to your instructions, I run HijackThis and eliminated the file R3- Default URLSearchHook
I then tried to look at the two files DUNMon and winanpa.exe. Unfortunately I could not trace the former: as a matter of fact, I could not even find the directory ~~NXTEMP. This however is a minor problem, since I know what DUNMON is: it is a connection throughput measuring program I have been using for years (and that, by the way, I recommend; it can be found at http://jongrieve.net/dunmon/ and it is free). So no problems with it.
Contrary to this, winapa.exe is indeed strange. I went to the file, and then to Properties, but I could not find the Version tab you refer to. I then tried the following: I first renamed winampa.exe to winampa.bak.exe, and then started the standard winamp.exe file. The Winamp player started correctly, so I concluded that the winampa.exe file is not necessary. I then left things as they were at that point. i.e. with the winampa.bak.exe file in place of the old one.
AT THIS POINT, I run HijackThis again and obtained the log that follows.
Please accept my thanks for the excellent work.

Well looks like you have most of it under control.

Spybot S&D lets you kill the 04's, the startups. Start Spybot click mode at the top left,
make sure that advanced mode is checked. Then click on tools on the lower left.
Then system startup, to the right is a double arrow bar click it to expand.
Now clicking on a value you will get a description of the command line. Removing the green
check mark will stop the startup, should you decide that you need or want it back just
replace the check mark. Restarting your PC will complete the change.
Remove the check marks from the ones listed below.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GhostStartTrayApp] C:\Programmi\Norton SystemWorks\Norton Ghost\GhostStartTrayApp.exe

Please follow a few tips to remain malware free:

Make sure you keep your Windows OS current by visiting Windows update
occasionaly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. With out these you are leaving the backdoor open.

Also download, install and keep updated- Antivirus Software (and use only one):
Free for home users:
avast! 4 Home Edition Download
AVG free version 7.0 AVG free version v6.0 updates ended 12/31/04
AntiVir Personal Edition

Adjust your browser settings: Change your(active x) settings in IE. With IE open go to tools, internet options, security tab. Click on the internet globe, then custom level. Set the first option "download signed active x controls" to prompt, the next two to disable. Read more:
Internet Explorer Privacy & Security Settings
Working with Internet Explorer 6 Security
Many exploits are directed at Internet Explorer, you dont have to use it. Try a different browser:
Like Firefox,
And Thunderbird for controling spam in your e-mail.

Install a firewall. A firewall will control what comes in from the internet and what leaves your computer to the internet. A firewall will also alert you when a application trys to connect to the internet from your computer, this is a good way to catch crapware or trojans, trying to connect out bound from your computer- whats that and why does it need a internet connection? You can deny it access it until more investigation is done. Zone Alarm is a free and easy to use firewall, that will provide in and outbound protection. Microsoft XP firewall only provides inbound protection, but is not as robust as third party firewalls, Be sure to run only >one< firewall. If you use another, be sure to disable XP's built in firewall.A inexpensive NAT hardware router with SPI (firewall)would be even better, along with a software firewall.
Zone Alarm
Kerio Personal Firewall
Outpost Firewall

Download, install and update before using:(if these are constantly finding malware, then you need to make some changes)
Ad-Aware SE Personal edition
Spybot Search and destroy
Becarful with spyware "removers and scanners"-- there are many "rogue/suspect" programs that "claim to remove" spyware.

Other programs to consider:
SpywareBlaster
IE-SPYAD
AntiTrojan software to fill in the gap:
a2 free
Ewido Security Suite
Trojan Hunter (30 day trial version)

Watch what you download, and where you download it from.
Many programs come bundled with "extra" crapware you may not want. Make sure you know what it is you will be downloading and installing. Visit the makers website, learn more about the program, Does the program you want come bundled with other "3rd party" programs? What do the 3rd party programs do? Will they deliver ads? Track your surfing habits?.You may be installing more than you think, Read the EULA agreement, you know that paragraph of stuff you "agree to" before the software installs? Stay away from warez and crack sites. Becarful what you download from file sharing networks. If you are not sure, scan it with your Antivirus app. A small file (in KB) is probably not what you think it is. Some p2p clients also install 3rd party stuff you probably dont want.
