Hello and welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere please follow these directions. You have several nasty infections and it is going to take a bit to clean them.

1) Download CWShredder from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popu…WShredder.shtml Update the program if available then choose FIX not scan. Allow the program to run and remove anything it locates. Please post the results for me to view.

2)Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.

When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

Exit Spy Sweeper.

Restart your computer, and then please copy and paste the SpySweeper log into this thread along with a new HJT log. We will have more to do.

Thanks…pskelley

OK, tell me in your next post how the computer is running. Are you having any issues with the items in the Hosts file? If you are, use this: http://www.funkytoad.com/hoster.htm and chose number four to restore the original hosts file.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(you may remove any of the first three R0/R1 lines you don't use, be sure to remove this one)
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com
(not sure why this HJT line is there, not needed so remove it)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [HijackThis startup scan] C:\DOCUME~1\H7A0A~1.TOD\LOCALS~1\Temp\Rar$EX00.078\HijackThis.exe /startupscan
(I will add that you have HJT.exe that is NOT in the Temp folder, if you have a version of HJT in that Temp folder, delete it)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php
The newest version of Ad-aware is 1.06 and Spybot 1.04. Even if you have these programs, use the link to get the newest version, update and configure them as in the link. Run Spybot first, reboot then run Ad-aware. Both programs back up what they remove so delete anything the programs say should be removed.

Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
Run CCleaner, when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log along with any comments you have.

Thanks…Phil

so far there hasn't been any new pop-ups, but spy sweeper has a shield to help block them, i've turned it off to see if anything happens
Sounds good, the trojan that infected you to cause the popups has been removed by Spysweeper, but it is a trial and will go away. Also be aware that someone who uses this computer did something to cause the infection in the first place and if they continue to do the same things, they will get infected again. For popups I suggest: http://toolbar.google.com/ and I suggest just the basic toolbar/blocker with none of the frill/resource wasters offered. Keep in mind, that was probably the Look2Me infection and no normal popup blocker is going to stop the popups, only removal of the trojan. Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

If you are reading this information…thank a teacher, If you are reading it in English…thank a soldier.
One last instruction. Because this infection may have gotten backed up in your System Restore files and could reinfect your computer if you had to use SR for a valid reason, we need to clean out those files. Follow these instructions for all new SR files.
