Hello kalbu, welcome to TomCoyote forum. You have a pretty good mess here, a couple of trojans, a bunch of adware and a nasty running from your Services. Once we clean you up I will have some optional advice for you. I thought about breaking this into several posts, but I will give you instructions that will probably remove all the bad stuff at once. It may look like at lot, but you just follow the instructions in the numbered order and make sure you have quiet and a couple of hours to complete the instructions. If this sounds good to you, them let's go.

1) I need you to look at your log. Follow the C:\'s down to the last three items. Not the Notepad.exe the two above. You are running HJT.exe twice and one must be removed. You must remove the one running from the Temporary Directory. You can do that like this, we have no need for anything that is in the "Temp" folder. Open that folder and delete everything in it, NOT THE FOLDER, The extra HJT .zip file will go with the rest of the junk and your next log will only show the other HJT.exe which will work fine where it is.

2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp and please do not run it until I ask you to.

3) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php
The newest version of Ad-aware is 1.06 and Spybot 1.04. Even if you have these programs, use the link to get the newest version, update and configure them as in the link. Run Spybot first, reboot then run Ad-aware. Both programs back up what they remove so delete anything the programs say should be removed.

4) Ewido scan:
Please download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

5) We must kill the bad service, do that like this:

Disable the offending Service
Click Start < Run and type services.msc.
Scroll down to Windows Overlay Components and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Delete the offending Service
Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
In the Delete window, type Windows Overlay Components and press OK.
OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer.

6) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank

O23 - Service: Windows Overlay Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\qeyismr.exe

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

7) SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\Updates from HP\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe <<< file (probably your error message, you may have to update HP manually after it is removed)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\lanbrup.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\pshwr.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\qeyismr.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\rubgpgn.EXE >>> file

8) Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log and the Ewido scan results in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let me know how you are running now. We will have more to do but this should clean out the bad stuff.

Thanks…pskelley

Again, thank you for your help!

Hello Kalbu, I sure wish you had provided a little information about how you are running now. A look at your HJT log shows this one line was not removed in the instructions:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank <<< do you know anything about this line? I don't think it is a problem, but I would like you to remove it using HJT. You may have to do it in safe mode: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html
Since your log is clean once that line is removed I want you to have this information now.
Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

We do have a problem here: 3296] C:\WINDOWS\qeyismr.exe -> TrojanDropper.Agent.tb : Error during cleaning
ewido may not have been able to remove this trojan because it was running as a service. You have successfully removed the service. What I want you to do is make sure it is gone. Enable hidden files and folders then use search companion to see if it can locate the file: C:\WINDOWS\qeyismr.exe If it is not there, that is great. If it is we must remove it. I received no feedback concerning any issues you had when removing the files and folders after you used HJT. I just want to be sure nothing bad is left, thanks.

Let me make some optional suggestions. When you are removing this line:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
You may also remove any of these lines you do not use. Click the link to see where it goes. This is just clutter and it might speed up your browser a little.
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://us10.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://wapp.verizon.net/bookmarks/bmredir….ie&bm;=yh_search
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://wapp.verizon.net/bookmarks/bmredir….1_ie&bm;=yh_home
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://us10.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-us10.hpwis.com/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://us10.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://us10.hpwis.com/

ewido security suite may slow you down a little, but that will go away after the two weeks trial period. At that point you can remove ewido or retain the scanner with free updates for as long as you wish. You will, however, loose the realtime protection you had during the trial period.

If the above goes ok for you, and your computer is running ok now, there is no need to post another log.

Safe surfing…Phil :wavey:

Thanks…pskelley
