There is no visible malware in your log.

Let's start here:

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

Then click "Fix checked".

Another way to help free up resources, and possibly boot quicker, is to navigate to this folder:

C:\WINDOWS\prefetch <– folder

Then, delete all the files in that folder.

DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDER!!

Just delete all the files in the folder.

Read about it here:

Windows prefetch

Now lets check for malware that may not be evident in a Hijack This! log.

Please download and run Spybot-Search&Destroy and Ad-Aware; they are the standard programs for finding and cleaning malware off your system. Here are links to both programs, and instructions for their use.

Get Spybot - Search & Destroy from Spybot Search and Destroy
(This is the NEW Version 1.4)
Get AdAware SE Personal from Lavasoft
(This is the NEW Build 1.6)

Download and install these programs if you don't already have them. If you do have them, make sure they are UPDATED AND CONFIGURED AS DESCRIBED here:

Configure Adaware

Configure Spybot

Reboot after running each program.

Try this online virus scan:

Trend-Micro Housecall

Put on 'Autoclean' and delete what it can't clean.

Let it remove any infections found.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new Hijack This! log file into this thread, and let me know if you think we've done anything to improve system performance.
:)
OK, completed all the instructions. I actually ran the Trend-Micro virus scan last night. It didn't find anything. Spybot and AdAware found a few things each. I deleted all the files from the prefetch folder. Startup was a little quicker, but not much. I did forget to mention that during all this one day it did not recognize that I had a CD rom and one day it didn't recognize my floppy drive. I think it's possessed!

Let's clean a few "temp" files.

Go to:

Start –> Run

In the box type in cleanmgr.msc then hit (or click OK)

Check ONLY the boxes next to:

Temporary Internet files

Recycle bin

Temporary files

Click "OK" then "Yes".

Now let's "defrag" the hard drive (this may take several hours if you've not done it before).

In the top windows click on "C:" then click on "Defragment".

When it's finished, reboot and see if you notice any improvement.
Well, neither of these will work. Windows cannot find the cleanmgr.msc file and defrag file doesn't exist. I've defragged before, but not since all these problems.
The "cleanup" can be accessed via:

Start –> All programs –> Accessories –> System Tools –> Disk Cleanup.

Then defrag (since you've done it before, I presume you can find your way there again :) ).
I ran both and rebooted. I couldn't get to defrag the normal way (well the way I used too), I had to go in through the control panel and use admin tools. How weird is that? It was still very slow compared to before. It took 6 minutes to get from reboot to the desktop. Maybe I should just leave it on for the rest of its life and not ever reboot… By the way, did you notice that Alabama is number 4 in the football polls??
Please go here:

Silent Runners.org

Download/run the silentrunners.vbs script.

If your antivirus complains about it, just tell it to allow this script to run.

When you run it, click "Yes" to the "Skip supplementary searches".

It will take a few minutes to run.

When it fininshes, it will tell you what text file it put the results in (it will be in the same folder the VBS file was downloaded into).

Open it up with Notepad, and paste it into your next post, please.
:)
Thanks so much for your help!
