Hello there,
I stumbled across this page after trying to find out information about the winfixer problem that I have. I am certain that I also have many other malware on my computer, but since I am fairly computer illiterate I do not know how to get rid of them. Could someone please help me~! The following is a copy of my HJT file.

Thanks~!

Hello sushibutt and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

You have posted a StartupList log, while we need to see a HijackThis log. Open HijackThis.exe and click "Do a system scan and save a logfile". This will open Notepad with the HijackThis log. Post that log as a reply to this thread.
Hello alsocom,
Thanks for the prompt reply~!
Sorry for posting the wrong log. :P Hopefully this log is what you are looking for.

PS. Thanks alot for the help

  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.
Hi alsocom,

I was able to execute most of the instructions that you asked me to do. However there were a couple of things that I could not.

- When performing the "Custom Cleanup", the "delete prefetch files" check-box was not accessible on the menu because it was shaded grey and the check box did not respond to my mouse.
-I was not able to delete C:\\WINNT\smsc.exe and C:\\WINNT\service.exe. A dialog box would appear, telling me that access was denied to the program. I tried to stop the process through my task manager, but I was also denied access.

With exception to the above points I was able to follow through with all of your steps, and here are the files.

Also, Make sure your Anti-Virus program is working properly - you can turn on and off auto-protect, etc.

5.) Run the folowing online virus scan:

Thanks again.

The log is looking much better.

You have Dameware on installed on the computer. This program allows remote access and control of a computer. This is a common program for hackers to install on a computer, so if it is installed, and you did not install it, it should be removed.

Nothing showed for the rdriv.txt. Was there nothing in that file?

Disable the offending Service
  • Click Start < Run and type services.msc.
  • Scroll down to Windows 32 Bit and right click on it.
  • Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.
Delete the offending Service
  • Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
  • In the Delete window, type Windows 32 Bit Drivers and press OK.
  • OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer.

I would like you to delete the following folder: C:\!KillBox

Now run the Panda ActiveScan again to make sure nothing else remains.

Post a fresh HijackThis log and the results of the latest Panda ActiveScan.
Hello alsocom,
Thanks again for all of your help. Here is a copy of my latest HJT file. Also, Panda ActiveScan gave my computer a clean bill of health.

I'll give you my security recommendations now as the log appears clean of malware.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.

I suggest that you download these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Here are two very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D; and Adaware SE

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.
