Thanks for any help you can give me .. I am sure there are some things I can get rid of ..
This is the first time I have really used this and don't want to mess up too bad ..
I'm not sure which things are good and which things are bad ..
Sometimes my computer locks up and shuts down browser, but I found out it was the new
YahooPhoto thing messed up on me .. Also some times the shutdown window comes up and
sends message to microsoft ..

I notice that you are using more than one antivirus program. This is very dangerous, as multiple AVs can interfere with one another and actually allow MORE viruses to get through. I strongly suggest you do one of the following :
(1) configure only one antivirus program to enable automatic realtime scanning, and leave the rest disabled most of the time
(2) go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall all but one antivirus program.


I'm not seeing anything malicious in your log. There are a couple of entries that can be removed.


I need you to disable SpywareGuard as it will interfere with the registry changes we will need to do.
  • Right click the running icon of Spywareguard, it will open the program.
  • Then go to Menu, file, exit.
  • Then confirm the program is closed.

Open HijackThis, run a scan and check the following:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\System\panels\blank.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\System\panels\blank.htm

With all other programs and browsers closed, click Fix checked.


Right-click My Computer, select Properties and on the 'Advanced' tab, click on the Settings button in 'Startup and Recovery'. In the System Failure section, uncheck Automatically restart.


Reboot the computer and scan with HijackThis. Post the fresh log as a reply to this thread.

Ok Alan .. I think I've done as you instructed ..
ANTIVIR .. disabled .. not active ..
CA AV .. runs for Road Runner email only ..
AVG .. does all but the RR mail ..
If I missed one please let me know and I will try to fix it ..

I suggest that you download these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

Here are two very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D; and Adaware SE

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.
