So far I have run the MS spyware scan, the latest ad aware, deleted all the temp folders, and deleted anything odd I could find in the add/remove programs library. The machine is still having issues. Thanks Again,
Here is the latest HJT file. I have removed quite a few things but am still having probs with purity scan and some unknown popups.

Thanks,

Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

Apologies for the delay in responding to your log.

The forums are very busy.

We need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
  • Click on Options, Settings.
  • In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
  • Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
  • Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
  • After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
  • Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

In the box type in services.msc then hit < Enter > (or click OK)

In the Name column look for:

Windows Overlay Components

< Double-click > it.

In the dialogue box that pops up, check in the Path to executable box.

It should say: C:\WINDOWS\lmzqpkj.exe

That's how to be sure you have the right one.

Now, click Stop to stop that rogue process.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

Close the services.msc window.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all of the following noted (in red) file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\program files\wincmapp <— FOLDER

c:\windows\lmzqpkj.exe <— file

c:\windows\pxikwaf.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\bho.dll <— file

c:\windows\system32\pkshxiit.dll <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".

SO…..

How are things working now?

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Download/install IE-Spyad

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings at Qualsys.com

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.

Thanks, The machine will run now, which is great. I am still getting the aproposmedia file while running the ms scan, but it doesn't seem to be effecting performance. Again, I can't thank this forum enough
If you are unable to delete the detected files manually, post again giving me the "full path names" of the malware files (example: "C:\Windows\virus.exe"). We have other tools available we can remove them with. :)
Here are the two files ms spyware comes up with: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Aprps HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Aprps/Client PartnerId WB.VER2 I can go into regedit and delete them manually, but they come back? When I do a search for aprps on "my computer" is finds nothing.
Micah, The keys were not in the location specified. {645FD3BC-C314-4F7A-9D2E-64D62A0FDD78} and {65C8C1F5-230E-4DC9-9A0D-F3159A5E7778} were in the IE/activexcompatibility folder. could not find {8023A3E7-AB95-4C23-8313-0BE9842CC70E}, {976C4E11-B9C5-4B2B-97EF-F7D06BA4242F} , {B3BE5046-8197-48FB-B89F-7C767316D03C}. All the other file names were not found either by search or manually digging through the keys. I deleted the keys I could find and the previously mentioned aprps folder, to no avail. Lol, at this point I am just annoyed that I can't beat this thing, it doesn't seem to be effecting the machine, just popups while using IE that the blocker does not catch. I imagine they are associated with apropos. Thanks Again for your help, jW
I don't think we ever resolved if these were "friendly" or not:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {105D8998-63B4-C57B-429C-2264590585D9} - C:\WINDOWS\Heaiklel.dll

O3 - Toolbar: Search - {58A0FF0A-03E7-BD3B-6B3B-87C931DF1837} - C:\WINDOWS\Heaiklel.dll

I cannot find anything on them at all….

If they are "bad", they could cause popups….

We can search for "hidden" items making those registry keys return:

Please go here:

Silent Runners.org

Download/run the silentrunners.vbs script.

When you run it, click "Yes" to the "Skip supplementary searches".

It will take a few minutes to run.

When it fininshes, it will tell you what text file it put the results in (it will be in the same folder the VBS file was downloaded into).

Open it up with Notepad, and paste it into your next post, please.
:)
I used HJT to delete the two Heaiklel.dll entries and restarted. Apropos was still found. As requested here is the silentrunners script and then a new HJT file for giggles:

Thanks :D

Three things jump out at me….

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run\
"sulwidl.exe" = "C:\WINDOWS\system\sulwidl.exe" [file not found]

Is C:\WINDOWS\system\sulwidl.exe present?

"CMSystem" = ""C:\Program Files\CMSystem\CMSystem.exe"" [null data]
"FCEngine" = ""C:\Program Files\FCEngine\FCEngine.exe"" [null data]

CMSystem.exe could be something called "Case Management Software". Do you have that installed?

I can't find much good or bad about FCEngine.exe. Do you know what it is/does?
