Various pop ups keep coming up when I am on the computer. Also on start up I notice an iexplore.exe come up & I think it's a virus as I didn't open any internet browsers. I'm not that computer smart so all help is appreciated.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing .

This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log. Copy/paste the contents of that log into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Download/install APM

Run APM

Click on each item in the upper window, then look in the lower window.

Check to see which processes are using C:\WINDOWS\system\font.dll

Post back letting me know all processes using that DLL.

The file which apm found that font was using is c:\windows\explorer.exe. Heres the L2MFIX log, option 1 that is. I need a bit more info….

Copy the text in the following quote box into Notepad:

dir C:\WINDOWS\system\ /ah > files.txt
dir C:\WINDOWS\system\ >> files.txt
notepad files.txt

Save it to your desktop as ff.bat.

Close Notepad.

Now, the ff.bat file on the desktop.

Wait for a Notepad window to open up.

Here are two methods to remove Winfixer.

Choose the one you want to use.

After it is gone, there are several viruses/trojans we need to deal with.

METHOD 1

Step 1:

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals from:

Process Explorer

Also download/unzip KillBox by Option^Explicit from:

Killbox.zip

Step 2:

Download this file and save it to your desktop:

FixVundo Registry File

Copy/paste the text in the Quote box below into Notepad, and save it on the desktop as "killme.txt"

C:\WINDOWS\system\font.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system\tnof.bak1
C:\WINDOWS\system\tnof.bak2
C:\WINDOWS\system\tnof.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system\tnof.ini2
C:\WINDOWS\system\tnof.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\system\tnofgol.bak1
C:\WINDOWS\System32\pmnnl.dll

Step 3:

Print out the following instructions as you will not have Internet Access for the rest of this fix.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

The rest of this fix must be done in safe mode.

Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe

In the top section of the Process Exlporer screen double-click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of:

C:\WINDOWS\system\font.dll

once and then click the kill button.

After you have killed all of:

C:\WINDOWS\system\font.dll

under winlogon click OK.

If you see any of the files listed below, kill them as well.

Files to look for:

C:\WINDOWS\system\tnof.bak2
C:\WINDOWS\system\tnof.ini

Next run Hijack This! and place a check beside each of the following.

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system\font.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: font - C:\WINDOWS\system\font.dll

Now click Fix checked and close HijackThis.

Now double-click on the vundo.reg file that you saved on your desktop earlier and allow it to merge with the registry.

Step 4:

On the desktop, open the "killme.txt" file with Notepad.

Then copy the all file names in the "killme.txt" to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing C (hold the key down, then press C):

Close "killme.txt".

Double click on Killbox.exe and then check the Delete on reboot button.

In Killbox, click File (in the upper left of Killbox), and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes", and "Yes" again.

After the reboot, "copy/paste" a new Hijack This! log file into this thread.

METHOD 2

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.
it should look like this

- C:\WINDOWS\system\font.dll
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system\tnof.*
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
In HijackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system\font.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: font - C:\WINDOWS\system\font.dll
After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Copy a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Please make a PERMANANT folder for Hijack This!

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT. MOVE (drag-and-drop) HijackThis into this folder.

W32/Rbot-AAZ is a network worm and IRC backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform.

W32/Rbot-AAZ spreads using a variety of techniques including exploiting weak passwords on computers and SQL servers, exploiting operating system vulnerabilities (including DCOM-RPC, LSASS, WebDAV and UPNP) and using backdoors opened by other worms or Trojans.

W32/Rbot-AAZ can be controlled by a remote attacker over IRC channels. The backdoor component of W32/Rbot-AAZ can be instructed by a remote user to perform a list of functions including:

start an FTP server
start a web server
take part in distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks
log keypresses
capture screen/webcam images
packet sniffing
port scanning
steal CD keys
download/execute arbitrary files
start a remote shell (RLOGIN)

That means anything you have typed on the keyboard (PIN numbers, passswords, etc.) since it's arrival may be compromised.
