Hello bigames and sorry for the wait we are evtremely busy. I need some help from you on this one. These two items:
C:\WINDOWS\svcwinra.exe and C:\WINDOWS\resfilter32.exe I believe they are trojans of some kind but it seems the first time they have showed up is in your log. This is not unusual because hackers use random names to make it hard to identify their junk. Use one or more of these tools to find out what they are. Post that information for me, thanks. I also want to suggest that except for when you are working on this issue you stay offline as much as possible, this junk seems to attract more.

http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

Proceed like this in the posted order:

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp and please do not run it until I ask you to.

2) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php
The newest version of Ad-aware is 1.06 and Spybot 1.04. Even if you have these programs, use the link to get the newest version, update and configure them as in the link. Run Spybot first, reboot then run Ad-aware. Both programs back up what they remove so delete anything the programs say should be removed.

3) Ewido scan:
Please download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

4) Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log and the Ewido scan results in this same thread along with any feedback you have.

Thanks…pskelley

Hi Amy and thanks for doing such a great job of following those instuctions:thumbup: There are free schools online if you ever want to learn more about this process.

I am especially interested in those two files you scanned. Do you know what they are? If you are so inclined you could navigate to them and right click then open properties and tell me what they are. They sure looked suspicious. Maybe I am growing paranoid?

ewido security suite - Scan report Created on: 12:44:03 AM, 9/24/2005

As you can see, Ewido did a great job of cleaning bad stuff and even showed you where cookies are hiding that you should be deleting on a regular basis. The realtime protection will stop after two weeks but you can keep the scanner and updates for as long as you like if you wish.
Areas to watch:
C:\Documents and Settings\Amy Roberts\Local Settings\Temp\Cookies\
C:\Documents and Settings\Jasani Bromfield\Cookies\
C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\YPSR\Quarantine\ <<< navigate to that quarantine folder and clean it out.

C:\System Volume Information\_restore << we will address this a little later

Turn off System Restore, restart the computer then turn System Restore back on. This will set a clean new restore point, see these instruction if needed:

Post one more HJT log for a final look along with any information you found about the two files you scanned earlier.

Thanks…Phil

OK Amy, Your HJT log looks good :) You did a great job  and maybe I'll spot the application in your list of programs. Open Hijackthis. Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button. Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button. Click the "Save list…" Button. Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply. I will not need to see other logs, just this one. Thanks..
Thanks Phil. Here's the list. But, is this all the programs that start when I boot up my laptop? That was the start up menu I was referring to. Hope that helped. OK, I see what you were asking. You can see the programs running in the HJT log. Running Processes and the 04's in the bottom of the log that say run or runonce. You can contol some in MSCONFIG. If you don't use them all of the time, just once in a while, uncheck them in MSCONFIG. You can start them in Start, All Programs when needed. I am looking over what you have installed first, and I suggest you do likewise. I am looking for malware and bad programs, you should look for stuff you no longer use and uninstall it. Don't bother Microsoft stuff or Security programs. I'll give you feedback soon on what I see. You should also be aware that you have a Process Manager in HJT. Look over HJT it does much more than just scan for a log. HEY!! You are learning lots :P

Check Java, I am not running it on this machine, I do have it my newest computer but it is not booted now. I believe java is up to 1.5.0, you may have the update turned off. That is not a problem as you can update from within the program. Look for the little coffee cup in the control panel and open the program. I am sure you can find where to update. Keeping java updated is very important for security. Hackers use it as a way in if it is not kept secure.
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_01
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_09

SpywareBlaster v3.3: Needs to be updates. It is a little tricky. First you have to open the program and "Disable All Protection" Then go to Add Remove Programs and uninstall the old version. Then download SB v3.4 from here: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html This program gives you realtime protection. It is very important you keep it updated and that all updated protection is enabled. Remember to UPDATE and enable all protection once you have it onboard. Do the removal offline and only go back online to download, update and install.

TrojanHunter 4.2: I do us this on 9X computer, but have not in a while. I think it is a trial and probably expired? I would check that, it may be wasting space??

I just don't see anything BAD, but i'll bet you see junk you never use and never will. Your hard drive will love you. Remember to defrag (in safe mode) and scan the disk, after programs are removed. I also suggest running CCleaner as it will clean out leftovers the uninstallers miss.

Since your log is clean, I will leave you with this information: here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
