Hi rfeatherhawk

Lets take care of the really bad stuff first.

Go to Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and Uninstall/Remove………
New.Net

Warning: Do not attempt to fix the 010 New.Net entries with Hijack This. Loss of your Internet connection would be the result.

Please disable SpywareGuard, as it will attempt to prevent us from making the necessary changes.

Look in your Systems Tray for the ICon. Right click the running icon of Spywareguard, it will open the program.
Then go to Menu, file, exit.
Then confirm the program is closed.
Reverse the procedure when we have finished.

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside each one of the following entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=:0

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button.

Reboot , enable hidden files and post a fresh Hijack This log in this thread,
Please use the Post Reply feature, so I will be notified.

Note: Please do not change anything in the new log, as we need to see the entire log, without revisions.
Hi Piatan and thanks for looking at this. Things have changed since I posted. Here is my new log though.

You're sure right, about things changing.

* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK, and delete them (if they are present):

You will need to do an ALL FILES SEARCH to find this. Also, be sure to include hidden files in the search.
lockx.exe

Hi Piatan,
I was thinking that lockx.exe was my problem. I had deleted that file numerous times and it keeps coming back.
Never tried it in the safe mode though.
Also this time I went in the administrator screen to do this work. Anyway here is my final results.

I also loaded zonealarm firewall. It seems to tell me more of what is going on inside my computer. :)
Hi rfeatherhawk

Right, that lockx.exe was a problem. Looks like you got it this time though.
Those files do need to be removed while in Safe Mode. Otherwise they just keep coming back.
You're right, it is best to do this sort of thing while signed in as administrator. That gives you access to everything.

I've always used Zone Alarm and have never had reason to need any other.

Your Hijack This log seems to be clean now. A little farther down are some programs that are highly recommended to keep your PC clean.

One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if Malware infects a computer with this operating system the Malware can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Download the new Ad-Aware SE version, and follow the instructions on how to do a full scan: http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=11150
-reboot after using Ad-Aware SE. Also while there get the VX2 plugin and follow the instructions to run it also.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Safe surfing. :wavey:
Hi Piatan,

Yep. Everything has been working good for the last couple of days. :D I also did a online virus check with Kaspersky and found 2 more trojans that the other antivirus programs didn't see.

Also went into the registry and found that lockx.exe :rant2: file and deleted it.

At this time I have the free AVG antivirus program <_< and plan on changing that problem soon. Will have to do some research.

I do have some of the other programs that you listed here.

Thank You very much for your help :D.
