BUMPED PLEASE REPLY I am not sure why this is showing as a locked topic? I suspect I have been hacked can someone please read these logs and give me some advice? Also the link for setting up adaware and spybot is not working. Thanks for your help
magicfriend,

Welcome to the forum, so sorry about the delay but we have been up to our ears with infected computers. If you have not resolved your issue and still need my assistance, this is what I would like you to do. Move HJT into its own folder and since your log is a little old and your system may have changed, after you move HJT, post a new log please and I will be more than happy to go over it for you.

DO THIS FIRST
Your HIJACKTHIS program is current, but it is very important that it resides in its own folder.
We will use Hijackthis (HJT) to make changes to your system and HJT will make backups of those changes,
If HJT is not in its own folder, those backups could be lost.

Easy to fix,
* just go to MY COMPUTER > YOUR C:\ DRIVE and create a new folder and name it HIJACKTHIS .
* Now scroll to where you have HJT currently, right click on the HJT icon and select CUT .
* Now open the new folder you just created and right click within that folder and select PASTE .
* Now HJT should reside in C:\HIJACKTHIS\HIJACKTHIS.EXE

magicfriend Glad to see you moved HJT, I am going to look over your log and be back to you as soon as I can. Open up Spybot and go to Help> About and make sure that it is version 1.4, if not you can uninstall it via the ADD-REMOVE programs in the CONTROL PANEL and you can use the links in my signature to download and install the latest version, also make sure that you have the latest version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06. Here are set up instuctions for both programs, make sure you reboot after each scan, this will assure that everything that was found is deleted. I will be back to you soon. Here are tutorials for both Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4 and AD-Aware SE Personal 1.06 Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4 * If you have the older version 1.3, remove it via ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS in the CONTROL PANEL. Go to START/ CONTROL PANEL/ PERFORMANCE AND MAINTAINENCE/ ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS scroll to that program and click on REMOVE. * During Installation, just follow all the defaults. * Go to MODE and click on ADVANCED MODE. * Then to SETTINGS / FILE SETS and take the checkmark out of USAGE TRACKS. * Then to TOOLS/ HOSTS FILE and then on the top click on ADD SPYBOT S & D HOSTS FILES. * Then to TOOLS/ IE TWEAKS and put a checkmark in LOCK THE HOSTS FILES * Then check for UPDATES. * Then to Immunize. then up at the top by the GREEN SIGN, click on IMMUNIZE. * Then go to the top to SPYBOT and run a FULL SYSTEM SCAN. * Then to FIX PROBLEMS and put a checkmark in everything and click on Fix. Then RE-BOOT your computer. AD-AWARE SE PERSONAL 1.06 If you have an older version of AD-AWARE, it will remove it for you during the install of the new version. * During installation, follow all the defaults. * Start the program and CHECK FOR UPDATES * Choose PERFORM FULL SYSTEM SCAN * Take the checkmark out of SEARCH FOR NEGLIGIBLE RISK FILES * Run the scan * When it is done, RIGHT CLICK ON ONE OF THE ENTRIES/ SELECT ALL/ NEXT and let it remove all that if finds. Ken :D
Magicfriend,

I don't see any evidence of any Malware or Viruses on your system

You do have a few links leading nowhere. This will clean up your system a little. Run HJT Scan Only and put a checkmark in the following entries, close all open windows and your web browser and click on Fix Checked.

When your done installing both Spybot and Ad-Aware correctly, and finished running CCleaner, after you clean these entries with HJT, post a new log please, at that point I will have some tips and free programs for you to install that will help keep your system more secure.

Ken :D
Hi Ken, thanks again for you time with this. I ran everything as you said. After I cleared the checked hijackthis entries I had a winpatrol popup that said my home page was changed from (blank) and that it could restore it to default (compaq) so I checked ok, not knowing what to do. I figured I lost my news home page but when I rebooted it was still there. Bit of a mystery.

Also I have a confession to make, feel like a dummy but here goes. A few months ago I was dating a guy who knows quite a bit about comps. I was having trouble with mine and we were online and he said if he could connect to mine he could see what was on my screen and help me out. So he had me do a few things, which of course I don't remember. Is there a way for me to check if he ever managed to hook into me and still is?

Something I noticed before when the browser was hanging if I clicked con alt delete and killed Cmmon 32 things would be fine, like it would connect right away. Any comments?

I just ran adaware and came up with nothing! First time in ages so maybe the tinkering with the spybot and adaware blocked some baddies. Here is my latest scan. One more thing, after the reboot things shifted on my taskbar..usually the audio icon is first and then winpatrol but winpatrol came up first. Does that matter? Thank you , big hugs!

Magicfriend,

I don't see anything bad on your log, not to say something is hidden somewhere.

Something I noticed before when the browser was hanging if I clicked con alt delete and killed Cmmon 32 things would be fine, like it would connect right away. Any comments?

Do you still have to do this or is it gone???????

cmmon32.exe
Description: Added by the SMALL.CL TROJAN!

This should not be there, I am going to look into it further and get back to you on it. Run the free online trojan scanner from Sygatetech and see if it picks anyting up.
http://scan.sygatetech.com/pretrojanscan.html

Then download and install the evaluation copy of Trojan Hunter, check for updates and run the scan, post back with anything the scan found.
http://www.trojanhunter.com/

I don't see anything to suggest that he is accessing your system, but if you installed a free Firewall from ZoneLabs, it would block anything from entering your computer that you didn't give permission for.
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_desc…fid,7228,00.asp

As far as your icons changing positions, nothing to worry about.

After you do the above, post a new log and let me double check it, I am going to enquire about cmmon32.exe and get back to you.

Ken :D
Hi Ken, How can you do it? Computers drive me soo batty! So here's the scoop: The trojan scan said it couldn't read; all my ports were blocked. So I exited my firewall and ran it again and it still said they were blocked. Then I moved onto Trojan Hunter, but then I remembered I have already had it on here for 30 days. So, I didn't try and install it again. I do have EZ antivirus which never picks anything up. re: Cmmon 32. Task list manager says it is Microsoft connection manager, little known about it but things seem to run better if you close out of it. I have also heard it is that trojan. Funny thing is, in my Win Patrol, which will display all active tasks, I tried to kill it from there and it now has a sort of celtic knot symbol on it. I assumed it was locked but 'cont alt delete' still shows it as a running program. I am already running Kerio personal firewall but installed it out of the box so to speak, so I don't know if another connection was allowed previously if it blocked or allowed it. I don't know much about how to set it up although I tested it with probes and they couldn't get through it. My connection dropped a few times earlier I got a message cannot find server but went I went back the page opened. Now I see my express icon dropped out of the task bar. I am going to do a reboot in a few and run adaware in safe mode and run another hijack this. Let me know if you want me to repost the scan. Sorry so wordy I do appreciate your help very much! I have a sense some of my troubles may be the dreaded ME I am running. :P
magicfriend, This seem to be a legitimate running process and you shouldn't fool around with it, why things run better when you kill it is beyond me. List of common Running Processes Win 98/98SE/ME legit files C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CMMON32.EXE << Microsoft Connection Manager Monitor I would suggest that you contact your ISP and let them know about your connection issues, it may be a problem they can help you out with. I submitted this question about it being a possible trojan and am waiting back for results, don't go away, I'll be back to your soon. Ken :D
Magicfriend,

I haven't forgotten about you, just got real busy at work and home.

Enable windows to show all files and folders

* Click on MY COMPUTER
* Then on your C: Drive
* Then to TOOLS/ FOLDER OPTIONS/ VIEW
* Choose the radio button to SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS
* Take the checkmark out of HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES
* Then APPLY/ OK

* Don't forget to reverse this once your computer is clean

Now lets pick a windows file at randon like this one.
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MPREXE.EXE < Look for this file or any other file in the windows\system folder,
Right click on that file and and go to properties and send me this info
Date Created
Date Modified

Then
Company Name
Product Name

Now do the same for
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CMMON32.EXE

I want to compare the information to see if both where installed at the same time.

Ken :D
Hi Ed, no worries, I have been busy too. Still having some troubles, like it froze on shutdown this am. Here's the info you requested:

MPREXE no creation date Mod: June 8,2000
Microsoft Millenium Operating system

CMMON 32 created May 10, 2005 Mod: Tues Dec 7, 1999
Microsoft Manager

I checked some others not included here that matched the MPREXE, and here were some that didn't that looked questionable:

CMMGR32 Created May 10, 2005 Mod: Tues Dec 07, 1999
Microsoft Corp. Manager

CMSTP created: Tues May 10, 2005 Mod: July 22, 2002
Microsoft Manager

CMDL32 created: May 10, 2005 Mod: Tues Dec 07, 1999
Microsoft Microsoft ® Connection Manager

I have had the view hidden files and folders for awhile and am careful not to delete anything, but did uncheck the show file extensions. Do I need to check hide the hidden folders or can I leave it checked if I am careful?

Let me know if you need more info. HOpe you are having a great weekend! TY
magicfriend,

Lets do this, you can upload the file to be checked at the following 2 sites.

First go here….and then in the site, browse to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CMMON32.EXE, it will upload that file and it will be checked by many virus scanners, post back with the results.
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Then go to this site
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index….opic=5.msg5#bot

Look on the bottom of the page for UPLOADS and follow the instructions.

This is the link to this thead
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?act=…02&f;=27&t;=46520

Be sure to insert your email address so as they can contact you with the results, they may even post the results in this thread.

If all comes up clean, then I would say it is a software problem and I can direct you to some good windows tech support sites that deal with this sort of thing.

So I will be waiting for the results.

Ken :D
Hi Ken , Just wanted to touch base and let you know I have been getting a busy server notice on the first link and have posted on the second one so I will keep trying the first and wait for the results on the second. TY M
