Hello and sorry for the wait we are extremely busy :( If you are still waiting for help and not being served elsewhere, please move your HJT.exe from the zip file in a Temporary directory to a permanent folder where logs and backups can be safely stored. I suggest: C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need more instruction use this link: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm For your own safety, do this before you proceed.
This computer is very infected, it is going to take some work on both of our parts to clean it up.

Thanks to Atribune and Trevuren for this fix and canned speech.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad . Make sure to work through the steps in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fix.
  • Download DSRFIX from HERE onto your Desktop.
    • Unzip and EXTRACT the files to your Desktop.
    • The program creates and names the new folder to house the files.
    • DO NOT RUN IT YET
  • Download Cleanup from Here (Alternate site if the above is not working Go Here)
    • A window will open and choose SAVE, then DESKTOP as the destination.
    • On your Desktop, click on Cleanup40.exe icon.
    • Then, click RUN and place a checkmark beside "I Agree"
    • Then click NEXT followed by START and OK.
    • A window will appear with many choices, keep all the defaults as set when the Slide Bar to the left is set to Standard Quality.
    • Click OK
    • DO NOT RUN IT YET
  • CLOSE INTERNET EXPLORER, if it is open
  • Open the folder dsrfix
    • Double click on the dsrfix batch file( the one with the little gear in it )
    • Once dsrfix has completed it will close on its own
  • Please restart HJT, put a checkmark next to the following items, and with all windows closed except for HJT, click “Fix Checked” and EXIT the program.

Sorry :( I am supposted to be notified when you post and I did not get this notification, in fact I found your post as I was checking.

Could you tell if this is a valid service: O23 - Service: Phoenix VCD Service (PhnxVCDService) - Phoenix Technologies Ltd. - C:\WINDOWS\System32\PhnxCDSvr.exe
http://www.phnx.co.il/

This it was bundled with another Logitech product, most folks don't even know it happens. If you don't know it's there and don't use it, I suggest you remove it.
Look in Add Remove Programs for Desktop Messenger and uninstall it. If it is not there then navigate to the folder in red, amd delete it. Do not delete the Logitech folder as it is needed for other applications.

Turn off TeaTimer, it may block this fix: http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://sys.us.shuttle.com

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Post another HJT log and let me know how this computer is running now.

Hey Nick, What about the service I asked about? I see its gone, did you disable it or remove it. If it is only disabled and you want it gone from the computer, HJT will remove it for you let me know. (Remove a NT service)
O23 - Service: Phoenix VCD Service (PhnxVCDService) - Phoenix Technologies Ltd. - C:\WINDOWS\System32\PhnxCDSvr.exe

How about this question?
Post another HJT log and let me know how this computer is running now.

HJT Log: Scan saved at 8:05:38 PM, on 9/21/2005
Your HJT log is clean: here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

If you remove the Desktop Messenger folder you can also use HJT to remove this line:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BackWeb-8876480.exe

Phil, this computer is running great now, thanks a ton for your help. The phoenix thing comes up at startup, prior to XP loading. It came with the PC and the trial period has expired. I would like to remove it (I guess with HJR) if you can help with that.
Thanks Nick for the feedback, this item: O23 - Service: Phoenix VCD Service (PhnxVCDService) - Phoenix Technologies Ltd. - C:\WINDOWS\System32\PhnxCDSvr.exe was showing in this log: Sep 20 2005, 03:17 PM but not in this one: Yesterday, 08:06 PM, that is why I thought you disabled it. If you are sure it is no longer needed remove it like this: Disable the offending Service Click Start < Run and type services.msc. Scroll down to PhnxVCDService and right click on it. Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled. Delete the offending Service Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service. In the Delete window, type PhnxVCDService and press OK. OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer. If there is anthing else I can do, your post will remain open for a couple of days.
