This is the .txt file generated when I scanned my computer initially with Hijackthis software. Any advice you can offer me would be greatly appreciated as I've never accessed a registry before….in fact, I don't even know where to begin in finding my registry. Thanks in advance for your kind advice.

Hi Jeff, sorry about the wait we are extremely busy. If you still need help and are not being helped elsewhere, I'll see what I can do. You have a nasty being called a lot of bad names but also Aurora/Nail. It is important that you follow the directions carefully.

Before you post the next HJT log you must move HJT.exe to a permanent folder, the logs and backups will not be safe where they are now. Use these instructions to fix this: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

Thanks to Swandog46 and the 'team' that worked on it.

BEFORE BEGINNING, Please read completely through the instructions below and download the files from the links provided. You may want to save or print out these instructions for easier reference.

First, download Ewido Security Suite.

Next, download Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and the VX2 Cleaner Plug-in. Install Ad-Aware using the default options, then install vx2cleaner_inst.exe, taking all the defaults there as well.

Run Ad-Aware, update to the latest definitions, then click on Add-ons in the lefthand column. Select VX2 Cleaner V2.0 and click Run Tool. Click "OK", then, if something is found, click "Clean" as in the directions given. Click "Close", and exit Ad-Aware.

Reboot your PC and run Ad-Aware again. This time, click on the Start button in Ad-Aware, select "Perform smart system scan" and click Next. Once the scan finishes, click "Next" again. Select all objects found (right click anywhere in the list of found objects and click "Select All Objects"). Click "Next" one more time, then "OK" to confirm the removal.

You will be prompted to set Ad-Aware to run on reboot, click "OK". Exit Ad-Aware and restart your PC once again.

When Ad-Aware starts up, click on "Start", then "Next". Follow the steps above if anything is found, or click "Finish", then exit Ad-Aware.

For a final cleanup, please install and run Ewido.
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.
  • When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.
Please finish up by rebooting your system once more, and posting a new HijackThis log and the log from the Ewido scan.

Thanks…pskelley

OK Jeff, Looks like that fix killed the Auora/Nail, but we have more work to do. You should print the instructions because you will be in safe mode during the fix. If you have no printer, save the instructions to notepad on your Desktop.

Use these links to tell me if these items are bad if you do not know what they are:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

C:\WINDOWS\eukvoub.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\sftwdagt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\dkdrdah.exe <<< trojan for sure
None of those identify and they are probably trojans. I will schedule removal and once you know they are bad proceed with the removal instructions.

This item…is this something you used to try to remove bad stuff? If you know what it is fine, if not check it with the above links and add it to the removal proceedure.
C:\Program Files\\FCEngine.exe

Jeff: The first stuff we removed has nothing to do with the rest of this junk. You sir were severely infected and much of the infection is still onboard. You will need to work with me to clean this up. As you work through the instructions, do not hesitate to post if you have questions. I would like you to check those three items, but I am most sure all but possibly the Hewitt item: C:\WINDOWS\System32\sftwdagt.exe is bad. This is the one that is also running as a service. If this tests good and/or you know it is valid, then pass over it in the instruction, and do not check the service for that item either.
We may have to post back and forth a few more times, but we will defeat this junk.

Ewido scan result: Everything was clean except for these items: C:\quarantine\svcproc.exe.Vir -> Trojan.Stervis.g : Error during cleaning which indicate they had to be quarantined on the C:\ Open that quarantine folder and delete what ever is in it. If you have a problem, delete it in safe mode: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html Once this is done, then run Ewido again in safe mode and post the scan result with the next HJT log. Thanks.
You can restart the computer here or stay in safe mode. If you stay in safe mode, no need to do the Task Manager as those programs won't be running in safe mode. If you stay in safe mode, restart the computer after you delete the files in the Prefetch folder. I know this is a little complex, you have complex infections.

Once you have checked the above files to find the bad ones, then open Task Manager then the processes tab. End Process on the on at least the bad items:

C:\WINDOWS\eukvoub.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\sftwdagt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\dkdrdah.exe
C:\Program Files\FCEngine\FCEngine.exe

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O23 - Service: sftwdagt - Hewitt Associates, LLC - C:\WINDOWS\System32\sftwdagt.exe
(this is a trojan running from service, we will probably have to disable the service to delete it)
O23 - Service: Windows Overlay Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\dkdrdah.exe
see this >>> http://castlecops.com/O23.html

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Enable hidden files: http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\eukvoub.EXE >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\dkdrdah.exe <<< file

C:\WINDOWS\System32\sftwdagt.exe >>> file (if you found it was bad)

C:\Program Files\FCEngine\ >>> folder (if you found it was bad)

C:\Windows\Prefetch: Locate this folder and delete all of the contents (NOT THE FOLDER) This information will tell you more about Prefetch:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_…refetch-XP.html

Now post a new HJT log and the results of the Ewido scan results run in safe mode.

Thanks
