This is the most current scan of hijackthis..
Welcome to TomCoyote.org! Please post the places (I'm assuming registry keys because it doesn't show up in your log file) where Spybot is detecting "ISEARCHTECH" :)
This is the string it displayed in the Spybot sd log ISearchTech.YSB: Settings (Registry key, fixing failed) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\YourSiteBar I went to this location and can see the string above, Not sure what to do so I'll wait for your reply. Thanks in advance
Let's try the "easy way" first.

Copy the contents of the following quote box into Notepad:

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\YourSiteBar]

Save it to the desktop as fixme.reg.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Now the fixme.reg file on the desktop.

You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".

Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Boot in normal mode and do a Spybot scan & let me know if we were successful.
:)
copied and ran the file as you suggested. No luck. When I ran spybot the same entry came up. Tried running the spybot fix in both normal and safe mode, still same result. Next step??
Make a folder on your machine and download RegDACL.

Click the "Download Freeware version as small zip file" link, and download the zip file into that folder. Unzip it in that folder.

Copy the text in the following quote box into Notepad:

RegDACL HKLM\Software\YourSiteBar /L > junk.txt
notepad junk.txt

Save it as checkme.bat, and save it into the RegDACL folder.

Now, the checkme.bat file.

A Notepad window will open up.

Paste it's contents into your next post.
:)
As you requested.. RegDACL 5.1 - Permissions Manager for Registry keys for Windows NT 4 and above Copyright © 1999-2001 Frank Heyne Software (http://www.heysoft.de) This program is Freeware, use it on your own risk! Access Control List for Registry key HKLM\Software\YourSiteBar: (NI) ALLOW Read NT AUTHORITY\INTERACTIVE (NI) ALLOW Full access BUILTIN\Administrators Can you school me on what this did / means?
I was checking the "permissions" for that registry key.

Copy the text in the following quote box into Notepad:

RegDACL HKLM\Software\YourSiteBar /gga:F

Save it as fixme.bat, and save it into the RegDACL folder.

Reboot in "safe" mode, and log into an account with "Administrator" privileges.

Now, the fixme.bat file.

This should give any login with "Administrator" privileges full access to this key.

You should be able to delete it now.

Now, the "REG" file you made in this post.

Reboot and run Spybot & let me know the results.
:)
No joy.. everything seemed as though it worked but, when I ran spybot I got the exact same string. Here is the report.. – Report generated: 2005-09-15 20:24 — ISearchTech.YSB: Settings (Registry key, fixing failed) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\YourSiteBar Windows Security Center.FirewallDisableNotify: Settings (Registry change, fixed) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\FirewallDisableNotify!=dword:0 — Spybot - Search & Destroy version: 1.4 (build: 20050523) — 2005-05-31 blindman.exe (1.0.0.1) 2005-05-31 SpybotSD.exe (1.4.0.3) 2005-05-31 TeaTimer.exe (1.4.0.2) 2005-07-16 unins000.exe (51.41.0.0) 2005-05-31 Update.exe (1.4.0.0) 2005-05-31 advcheck.dll (1.0.2.0) 2005-05-31 aports.dll (2.1.0.0) 2005-05-31 borlndmm.dll (7.0.4.453) 2005-05-31 delphimm.dll (7.0.4.453) 2005-05-31 SDHelper.dll (1.4.0.0) 2005-05-31 Tools.dll (2.0.0.2) 2005-05-31 UnzDll.dll (1.73.1.1) 2005-05-31 ZipDll.dll (1.73.2.0) 2005-04-26 Includes\Cookies.sbi (*) 2005-08-26 Includes\Dialer.sbi (*) 2005-09-08 Includes\Hijackers.sbi (*) 2005-08-16 Includes\Keyloggers.sbi (*) 2004-11-29 Includes\LSP.sbi (*) 2005-09-08 Includes\Malware.sbi (*) 2004-08-11 Includes\plugin-ignore.ini 2005-08-12 Includes\PUPS.sbi (*) 2005-04-27 Includes\Revision.sbi (*) 2005-08-25 Includes\Security.sbi (*) 2005-09-08 Includes\Spybots.sbi (*) 2005-02-17 Includes\Tracks.uti 2005-09-08 Includes\Trojans.sbi (*) Whats next? Click here to download and install Registrar Lite.

Reboot in "safe" mode, and login to an account with "Administrator" privileges.

Run Reglite, and paste the BOLD text below into Reglite's address bar:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE

In the right hand pane, on the YourSiteBar key, and choose Delete.

If you can't delete it, on it and choose:

Properties –> Take ownership –> OK

Then try again to delete it.

Let me know how it goes.
:)
:) Its gone…
I ran all the things you listed and it still would not let me delete it. I then tried to take ownership and rename it, No good. After that I went in to regedit and found the correct key location, I tried re-naming it from regedit it didn't work. Then I started poking around in its properties and found that I could delete the current user which had permissions, I then gave Myself as the only user with permisions. I then ran registar lite and was able to rename the key and then delete it.
I rebooted re-ran spybot and came up clean..

Just to be sure I am pasting the Hijackthis log I just ran, I would appreceate You taking one last look to make sure Im clean.

Thanks again…
Log looks good.

Glad you found a way. I've worked with "permissions" on several systems, but permissions on windows is relatively new to me.

The scary thing is that the malware was able to create something you had such a hard time removing…. :o

GOD bless you!!!

M68 :)

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Download/install IE-Spyad

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings at Qualsys.com

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.

I'm guessing your name is ? ?, if so email through my profile.

I think you have to have made 15 posts to get that "privilege". If you want, I an edit out your last name (for privacy reasons) now that you have "made contact". :)
