Hi, I'm trying to fix a friends computer which has been crippled pretty badly. Right now I only have access to the internet when in safemode. Adaware, Spybot etc. and after some progress there's still plenty to do. Hope you can help.

hi

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

post the ewido report and a fresh hijackthis log (from normal mode)
Sorry to take so long to get this. I've followed your instructons exactly I hope.

hi
that shows a possible qoologoc infection:

Please Download the following tools to assist us in removing this infection!
  • Download WinPFind
    • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Dont do anything with it yet!
  • Download Track qoo
    • Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

I hope this more correct.
hi

since this repairs.dll is being stubborn we must attempt to remove it manually

because this includes registry editing start off by creating a backup of your registry
should anything go wrong you can restore your registry using the backup, make sure you view the instructions how to do it before you edit ;)

unhide system and hidden files:
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html
also untick the box hide extensions of known file types

when a backup is complete do the following:
-Boot into safe mode and locate the following key using regedit:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
-Should see value for AppInit_DLLs in that folder
-Rename folder to Windowstemp
-Delete the AppInit_DLLs value and hit F5 to ensure that it's not reappearing
-Rename folder back to Windows
-Reboot and rename the repairs.dll file from the system32 folder

reboot again, and post a hijackthis log from a fresh scan
I cannot rename the repairs.dll file. Message says "Cannot rename repair- the specified file is being used by windows"
Here is the hjt log.

reboot into safe mode
run killbox, this time select replace on reboot and use dummy

to the field full path of file to delete copy paste this lineC:\WINDOWS\system32\repairs.dll }

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

after reboot do a scan with ewido, save its report
post that along with a fresh hjt log

i got a sample of the file repairs.dll yesterday, this really should work :)

good luck
After I run killbox a window appears that says "PendingFileRenameOperation Registry Data has been Removed by External Process" then it doesnt auto reboot, when i start into normal mode, the hijacker is still there.
