Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
Sorry it's been so long, I've been sick. Here's the ewido log and the Hijackthis log. Thanks for looking.

Scan with asqaured again allowing it to fix all it finds. Then clean out all of your temp folders, cookies, online and offline files in internet explorer. Reboot and a new log please.
I've done the things listed and here's the new log. Thanks again for helping.

I've been getting a lot of Page cannot be displayed, my outlook express won't open right, msn messenger tells me it cannot sign me in. I've done the following (told to me by compact) to fix the page cannot be displayed:In Windows XP, click Start, Run and type netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
Sometimes it works sometimes not. There are times it will not let me go anywhere unless I sign onto messenger first, and there are times it will not let me sign in. I know this is long, but you asked, right. At this point any and all help is so much appreciated that I can't even begin to Thank you for this. Here is a new ewido log and a hijackthis log.

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED PROFILE USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I've done all the above with the exception of: C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED PROFILE USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder. There was no Local Settings\Temp folder that I could find. All else went well. Right now my computer is logging on, but it usually will when I reboot, messenger signed me in and I got on line with no problems (this time). Here is the new log and thanks for all of this. By the way…love your avator.

By the way…love your avator.

That was done by my 20 yr old daughter :D

Lets cleanup what's left.

Backup your Registry…
- Press "CTRL - ALT - DEL" keys all at the same time to start "Task Manager"
- In the Task Manager window click on "File", then from the drop-down menu select "New Task (Run…)"
- In the "Create New Task" window enter\type "regedit" (without quotes)
- Once Regedit opens click on the FILE menu and select Export
- Save the file as backup. Save the file somewhere you will remember and not delete.
IMPORTANT: make sure to set the export range to ALL

I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. Reboot When done.
I haven't done any of the above yet, just wanted to let you know that first thing this morning, outlook express gave me an error and wouldn't open, and internet gave me "page cannot be displayed". I tried to sign in to msn messenger and it would not let me, then I finally signed on to windows messenger and got through. After that everything worked again. Does any of this info help you? By the way, my 23 year old daughter would probably come up with something like that too. My sign in name is a combo of 3 of my grandchildren's names, (I've had 2 more since then.)
It's done. I ran it 3 times before it came back empty, but here's the new log. Thanks again for all you do.

Good Job

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
Before you go away could you tell me if I can get rid of any of these safely? It seems like my desktop is cluttered with "safe" tools. I have: Adaware, Registry Mechanic, Spyware Blaster, PConPoint, AVG Free, Microsoft Antispyware, Hijackthis, PCRescue 3.0, CWShredder, StartPage Guard, Spybot Search and Destroy, Belarc Advisor, Registry Fix, RegCleaner, Cleanup, Ewido, a-squared, and RegSeeker, plus the Windows Firewall that came on the computer. There are some that I would definitely like to keep, but some of these have been on here forever and if you could…please tell me which ones can go??? By the way, done everything listed in last post, things are O.K. Is there any reason you can think of that MSN messenger is not letting me sign on without signing on to windows messenger, then signing out and signing in on msn again?? THANKS FOR ALL YOUR TIME AND PATIENCE WITH ME!!!

The ones I know about that I would keep on my PC:
Adaware, Spyware Blaster, AVG Free, Spybot Search and Destroy, and RegSeeker.

Now you should ONLY run one Anti-Virus program at a time. So I'd either keep AVG or a-squared. I don't know anything about a-squared, but have heard it's good.

You don't need: Hijackthis anymore plus by the time you might need it again, it'll need updated. Ewido is only a 14 day trial version. There is also a folder you can remove: C:\!submit. This is the items you post from the Ewido scans.

The ones I don't know about: Registry Mechanic and PConPoint, so I don't know if you should keep or not.

Is there any reason you can think of that MSN messenger is not letting me sign on without signing on to windows messenger, then signing out and signing in on msn again

I had that issue with messanger yesterday myself. If you decide to re-install it:
You can re-install Messenger, just remember to install without
advertising support.

Great job

You're more then welcome.
Glad we were able to help

Peace be with you :wavey:
