Something is redirecting browser

My browser is being redirected regularly to Winfixer2005 page (or a name close to that).

I have run Updated Adaware, Spybot, and Ewido. Ewido says I have Virtumonde but it isn't able to remove it when I tell it to.

I also tried to manually remove Virtumonde based on info from the web but I don't seem to have any of the files listed on those sites.

I've done what I can do… can you help me?

These two Malware items are related, and take a special process to remove:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\bakeula.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: bakeula - C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\bakeula.dll

Download/install APM

Run APM

Click on each item in the upper window, then look in the lower window.

Check to see which processes are using bakeula.dll

Post back letting me know which ones are using that DLL.

Here are all the places bakeula showed up. c:windows\system32\winlogon.exe (3 instances) c:\windows\explorer.exe (3 instances) c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe (5 instances) Thanks for the help!

Please download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
  • Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
    • All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
  • Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
  • Double click on KillVundo.bat
    • When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
  • Please press any key to continue.
  • Wait for HiJackThis to open.
  • When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only.

    Place a check next to the following items, if found:

    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\bakeula.dll

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: bakeula - C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\bakeula.dll

  • Once they all have a check next to them, click the FIX CHECKED button, then close HiJackThis.
You will once again be prompted to press any key. Upon doing so this time you will receive a "Blue Screen Of Death".

Don't worry, this is normal!!!

Let the computer reboot. If it doesn't boot straight to windows, manually turn the computer off and then back on.

After the reboot "copy/paste" a new Hijack This! log, as well as the contents of vundofix.txt (which can be found in this folder: C:\VundoFix) into this thread.

Well, you got half of it… :thumbup:

The other "half" is a bit more complicated….

Download/install APM

Run APM

Click on each item in the upper window

In the lower window, check to see which processes are using ssqrq.dll

Post back letting me know which ones are using that DLL

This is simpler, and I believe it will work…

Download Killbox from here:

Killbox.zip

Unzip it, but don't run it yet.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8E13DDE1-E013-47ec-9C4C-27C2F78BDD26} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqrq.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ssqrq - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ssqrq.dll

Then click "Fix checked" & close Hijack This!

Now, run Killbox.

In Killbox select "Delete on Reboot".

Paste the next line into the "Full Path of File to Delete" text box.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ssqrq.dll

Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes", and "Yes" again.

When the machine reboots, "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

Lol. I missed the reply in the middle until you said something.

Anyway, I did hte HJT thing then when I used Killbox, everything seemed OK until it was checking the registry and came back with a box saying, "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been removed by External Process."

I tried it all twice. Rebooted each time. Here's the log:

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals from:

Process Explorer

Print out the following instructions as you will not have Internet Access for the rest of this fix.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

The rest of this fix must be done in safe mode.

Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe

In the top section of the Process Exlporer screen double-click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of ssqrq.dll once and then click the kill button.

After you have killed all of the ssqrq.dll under winlogon click OK.

Next double-click on explorer.exe, select the Threads tab, and again click once on each instance of ssqrq.dll then click the kill button.

Once you have done that click OK again.

Next run Hijack This! and place a check beside each of the following.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8E13DDE1-E013-47ec-9C4C-27C2F78BDD26} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqrq.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ssqrq - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ssqrq.dll

Now click Fix checked and close HijackThis.

Now, run Killbox.

In Killbox select "Delete on Reboot".

Paste the next line into the "Full Path of File to Delete" text box.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ssqrq.dll

Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes", and "Yes" again.

When the machine reboots, "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)
