k here we go i just restarted and then shut down completely to do a FULL restart everything starts up properly and quickly however i activated my spysweeper program again and went to turn on the active shields as soon as i activated STARTUP SHEILD i get this notifictaion: Spy sweeeper has deteced that new programs will start when windows starts bla bla bla………. and it lists the followings WINHV.EXE WINXM.EXE those two are in the startup list as of now. i wont do anything to them nor will i restart the PC until we go further also Spy sweeper has detected additions to your IE FAVORITES bla bla they are as shown SEARCH THE WEB() — i suppose the "()" means that the url it calls has been eliminated Only sex website () — i suppose the "()" again means the same as above— Seven Days of free pron () —- above same— As i remember it previously where it was "()" there was a URL in there now that there is no url im guessing it wont redirect to anywhere but im reluctant to just goto my favs folder and DELETE the items as they may just copy themselves or is it really that simple because they are now immunized…..
It appears that the bad registry keys were OK'd in Spysweeper at some time and the program is trying to reinstall them. Please uninstall the program with Add/Remove Programs then delete the folder : C:\PROGRAM FILES\WEBROOT
You can reinstall that program once the computer is clean.

Reboot and post another HijackThis log as a reply to this thread so I can see if anything has been added to the computer.
im seeing this again
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank

Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

In Windows ME, you can go to do this as follows:

1. Open System properties in Control Panel.
2. Click the Performance tab, and then click File System.
3. Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then make sure the 'Disable System Restore' check box is checked.
When you choose to disable system restore you will get a message that it will erase all your previous restore points, and that is ok.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1-2, this time clearing the box beside 'Disable System Restore'.

I suggest that you download these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "So how did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
