Hello. My wife and I left on vacation about two weeks ago. I remembered to shut off the computer, but forgot to unplug our DSL modem (always-on connection). Ever since we got back, I've been battling adware pop-ups, browser hijacks, and website redirections. I use Norton System Works 2005, Ad-Aware SE Personal, and Spybot S&D. A friend also told me to install Microsoft Antispyware Beta 1.0.

I just recently found out about your site and HijackThis from a Yahoo! search. The following is a listing of items found and (supposedly) removed by the respective software packages:

Microsoft Antispyware Beta 1.0 – AlwaysUpdate News, 180Solutions.SearchAssistant, Spyware.jmzxm, AproposMedia, NavidadWorm, SearchMiracle.EliteBar Browser Plugin, and DelFin.MediaViewer.

Spobot S&D – 180Solutions.Zango, AbetterInternet.Aurora, CoolWWWSearch.Service, Pacimedia, and Windows AdTools.

Ad-Aware found nothing (probably because I ran it third).

Norton System Works 2005 Premiere – Look2Me, MediaPass, AUNPS, QoolAid, PurityScan, EliteBar, AdLogix, e2give and newesp.exe SecurityRisk.downldr.

Also, last night my computer starting "blue-screening". It's repeated for a total of four times since last night. Before each time, a small window popped up. I think all of them had the following title line: "winlogon.exe - Application Error". And the latest one had these words in the window: "The instruction at "0x10013c4c" referenced memory at "0x01448000". The memory could not be read." I clicked OK the first three times and Cancel the last time, but it didn't seem to matter as the computer went to a blue-screen with some writing usually ending in some words to the effect of "…physical memory dump complete…." Each time the computer had to be turned off and restarted to recover.

Here is my HijackThis log that I just ran. Any help would be greatly appreciated:

Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

From the looks of your log, you've got "Qoologic" and either "Winfixer" or "Look2Me" active on your machine.

Fortunately, both are relatively easy to remove.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: SDWin32 Class - {210C7225-C8BF-4D3A-8E97-572E52343399} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tqqdy.dll (file missing)

O2 - BHO: SDWin32 Class - {E7B0763B-6757-44D3-8EC4-A61CCAC53797} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\xmrtg.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINDOWS\system32\lpls4g.exe reg_run

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [newexp] C:\WINDOWS\system32\newexp

O20 - Winlogon Notify: Hints - C:\WINDOWS\system32\baowsewm.dll

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

This is the Qoologic trojan, and will probably show back up in the log:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINDOWS\system32\lpls4g.exe reg_run

This is "Winfixer" or "Look2Me", and will either return "as is", or with a slightly modified entry:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: Hints - C:\WINDOWS\system32\baowsewm.dll

If that "O20" entry returns (even slightly modified) please do this:

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing .

This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log. Copy/paste the contents of that log into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
I think they both came back like you said. I'm going to run the L2mfix as you directed. Here's the HiJackThis log after rebooting, but before running L2mfix per your last instructions.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing , then press any key to reboot your computer.

After the reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
I received 4 error messages after the reboot that all had the heading Registry Error and each said they could not “export backregs\{each had a different pathname}.reg: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or system error.”

Here is the l2mfix log:

That's the first time I've heard of anyone getting an error using the Look2Me fix.

Seeing as it did it's job (Look2Me is gone), and your system went ahead and booted normally, things should be OK.

Now let's remove the Qoologic trojan.

Download FindQoologic-Narrator.zip save it to your Desktop.
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.ph…=post&id;=134981

Extract (unzip) the files inside into their own folder called FindQoologic.
Open the FindQoologic folder. Preferable to your desktop.

Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic.bat file to run it.

Wait until a text opens, post it in a reply to your thread.

It may take a few minutes to run, so be patient.

After you post the Qoologic log, go ahead and download/unzip this:

Killbox.zip

You will need it in a bit.

It may take me a while to respond, depending on how long the Qoologic log is.
:)
As Find-Qoologic.bat ran, I kept getting the following error message with the title bar "16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem": C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT {and something to the effect of} The system is not able to run MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application. This happened several times. Here is the log: Find Qoologic last edited 8/30/2005 PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL FILES FOUND BY THIS METHOD ARE NOT BAD FILES, There WILL be LEGIT FILES LISTED PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHILE FIXING. From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, l2mfix.bat and select option #5 for Fix Autoexec.nt/cmd.exe error by typing 5 and then pressing .

After that make/post a new Qoologic log.
:)
Find-Qoologic ran without any trouble this time. After the reboot, "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)
When I ran HijackThis, the following two files were not listed:

O4 - Global Startup: nani.exe

But, I chose the other 2 items. Here is the new log:

There were a few files in the Qoologic log I wasn't sure about, so I didn't get rid of them.

Obviously, at least one is "bad".

Please run/post another Qoologic log.

I will look it over and ask you to find some more information on a few of the files before posting another "fix".

Please don't reboot until asked to do so. Some of these things "morph" with every reboot.
