Hello seeker166, Sorry for the wait we are extremely busy :( This computer has some nasty infections, Trojan Vundo, Look2Me,and you mentioned Winfixer, none of which give up easy. I want to make sure you still need help, and because the logs information can change quickly with the infections, I will need a new HJT log. If you post a new log we will start with the information you need to remove the first infection. Thanks…pskelley TomCoyote forum Slyware Warrior
PSkelly, I am very surprised to hear that many infections are present on this system. I have added CWShredder, Venus SPY Trap to my Adaware, Norton SW 2005 and Spybot routines…

Let's get it on though…here is an updated HJT Log.

Thanks!
P.S. Since this report Spybot found Winfixer and removed it..however the popups have returned again…

Hello and thanks for the new log, but you cut the first line from it, please make sure you copy and paste the complete log. Luckily I had a log to look back to showing the HJT version. We will start with the Virtumundo/Trojan.Vundo. Here are the markers for it in the log:
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {B8B55274-0F9A-41E5-9067-A3539BD9E860} - C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\svcac.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: svcac - C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\svcac.dll

I will give you two fixes, the Symantec fix first:

If you are to be successful with this fix, you must follow the instructions exactly. I suggest you print the instructions because you will not see this information while in safe mode. You could, however save the information to a notepad on your Desktop and view it there.

VUNDOFIX by Atribune, Canned fix written by Michelle (Thanks Michelle)

Please download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
  • Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
    • All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
  • Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
  • Double click on KillVundo.bat
    • When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
  • Please press any key to continue.
  • Wait for HiJackThis to open.
  • When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only. Place a check next to the following items, if found:O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {B8B55274-0F9A-41E5-9067-A3539BD9E860} - C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\svcac.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: svcac - C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\svcac.dll
  • Once they all have a check next to them, click the FIX CHECKED button, then close HiJackThis.
You will once again be prompted to press any key. Upon doing so this time you will receive a "Blue Screen Of Death". Don't worry, this is normal!
Let the computer reboot. If it doesn't boot straight to windows, manually turn the computer off and then back on.

Once the computer is rebooted post a new HiJackThis log as well as the contents of vundofix.txt which can be found in this folder: C:\VundoFix

However, at the end of the line there was (file missing) added..I fixed nonetheless.

Thanks PSkelly…what next?
Good job on the trojan vundo removal  That Symantec fix does work often? You can see the item was there in the VundoFix log.

This item: O20 - Winlogon Notify: req - C:\WINDOWS\System32\req.dat (file missing) is a marker for Look2Me infection.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Thanks…Phil

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot. From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new Hijackthis log. IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so! Note : Once the PC has restarted if a log does not appear or the icons didn't disappear, run the "second.bat" located inside the L2mfix folder. Thanks…Phil

I do understand how that happens :) notifications cause me problems all of the time. That is why I wait several days then still post a final check. Let's see how we are doing.

We still have some problems. Lets do this:

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp and please do not run it until I ask you to.

2) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php Please do not activate TeaTimer until we are finished with the repair.
The newest version of Ad-aware is 1.06 and Spybot 1.04. Even if you have these programs, use the link to get the newest version, update and configure them as in the link. Run Spybot first, reboot then run Ad-aware. Both programs back up what they remove so delete anything the programs say should be removed.

3) Ewido scan:
Please download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1C044AAD-7955-4cbd-8175-501A165C4E5D} - (no file)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: req - C:\WINDOWS\System32\req.dat (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Windows\Prefetch: Locate this folder and delete all of the contents (NOT THE FOLDER) This information will tell you more about Prefetch:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_…refetch-XP.html

5) Run CCleaner, when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log and the Ewido scan results in this same thread along with any feedback you have.

Thanks…Phil
First time I've heard of that one, I'll see what I can find out when I have time to research it. In the meantime, continue without Spybot. You can also register free here: http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php? (the Home forum for Spybot) and ask the questions about that issue here:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showforum=28 This may be the same question here:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=33205 I am so bogged down right now that as I said, if you can't get Spybot to run we will try to correct that issue later. Thanks, Phil
