OK Alton, thanks for the new log :) We are going to give you a good cleaning, then finish up with HJT. Follow these instructions in the posted order:

1) You have posted the last log I asked for using an outdated version of HJT 1.98.2, The first log was with 1.99.1 which is the only one I wish to see. Please delete the old version of HJT. It is no longer used.

2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp and please do not run it until I ask you to.

3) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php Please do not activate TeaTimer until we are finished with the repair.
The newest version of Ad-aware is 1.06 and Spybot 1.04. Even if you have these programs, use the link to get the newest version, update and configure them as in the link. Run Spybot first, reboot then run Ad-aware. Both programs back up what they remove so delete anything the programs say should be removed.

4) Ewido scan:
Please download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

5) Turn off Microsoft AntiSpyware until you are done, it will block HJT changes:
Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

6) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…rch/search.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [MOSearch] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\System\MOSearch\Bin\mosearch.exe

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

7) SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\PROGRAM FILES~1\COMMON~1\System\MOSearch\ >>> folder
C:\Windows\Prefetch: Locate this folder and delete all of the contents (NOT THE FOLDER) This information will tell you more about Prefetch:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_…refetch-XP.html

8) Run CCleaner, when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log and the Ewido scan results in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let me know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley

Thank you pskelley for the detailed instructions with my pc problem. It will be a couple of days before I can sit down and begin working on it. I did want to let you know that I read it, will keep you posted on the progress and will send the scan results. Alton
pskelly, I received an internal error when I tried to install Spybot. It read: Internal Error Failed to expand shell folder constant "localappdata" fix problem and try setup again :( Alton
Until I can check out the error message, just pass over Spybot and run the rest of the spyware tools. When you finish I need to see the Ewido scan results and a new HJT Log. Thanks…Phil
Hi Alton, Don't concern yourself with Spybot right now, I know you already have it installed and I am just interested in if you just downloaded the new version 1.4 right over the old version? That is supposed to work and worked fine for me. Your computer does not have a lot of malware problems and we can clean it up first. Once you post the Ewido and HJT log then you can look at this. First, at least a couple of others have gotten the same message but it seems it was with v1.3:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Inter…G=Google+Search (not much help) You might try uninstalling Spybot. Start > All Programs > Spybot - Search & Destroy > Uninstall Spybot S & D. Then Download it fresh from here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html Let me know if that works. For your own benefit, this is the home forum of Spybot:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php? You can register free and ask your questions free if you have issues in the future. There are some really nice folks there also.

Let me know if this works when you have time to pursue it. Thanks.

Please advise, thank, alton
Hello Alton, For some reason when Ewido found the junk, you chose to ignore it instead of deleting or at least quarantine it. Why did you do that?

Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\5hp7oj61.default\cookies.txt -> Spyware.Cookie.Hitbox : Ignored

Do this please: Open Firefox > Tools > Options Privacy (little lock) > Click on the plus in front of Cookies > Click on Clear then click on OK. Now run Ewido again making sure you either quarantine or delete anything it finds unless you know it is valid.

I see you are now running msconfig in Selective Startup, your log is clean  here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

If you are successful in removing those cookies with Ewido, you do not have to post the Ewido log. Look at it yourself, it should be clean. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. I'll leave the thread open for a couple of days.

Safe surfing…Phil :wavey:

Thanks…pskelley
