It looks like the remainder of the problems are related to DirectX. Download and install the newest version from here.

Also, do you have your Windows 98 installation CD's? We may need those to check for missing/corrupt files.
Are you still having the problems? If so, continue on with the next set of instructions.

System File Checker checks for damaged or replaced system files, and then prompts you to replace any files that do not match the original Windows 98 files.
You'll need your Windows 98 CD-ROM to do this.

To start System File Checker, follow these steps:
1. Click Start < Programs < Accessories < System Tools < click System Information < System File Checker on the Tools menu.
2. Click Scan For Altered Files
3. Click Settings, choose the configuration you want to use in System File Checker Settings, click OK, and then click Start.

Reboot the computer and rescan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Let us know how the computer is running now.
I am still having problems with the display. Sometimes colours are completely wrong.

The system file checker replaced DDRAW.DLL with the original. However, now when I try and open the media player classic it says "A device attached to the system is not functioning" and then "The MPLAYERC.EXE file is linked to missing export DDRAW.DLL:DirectDrawCreateEx."

Here is my logfile:

Unfortunately, I've run out of ideas on this problem. Troubleshooting is not my strong suit as I mostly just clean malware.

You can try posting in the Other Computer Problems Forum for help with the color and Media Player problems. Be sure to include a link to this thread so they can see that your computer is clean of malware.

I'll give you my normal protection now as the computer appears to be clean.

I suggest that you download these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read the following posts to learn how to better secure your computer.
"So how did I get infected in the first place"

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
