Winfixer issues

Hi,
Winfixer is downloading when I open IE. I suspected it had something to do with goole toolbar so I removed the Google toolbar in add/remove programs. This is my JT log. I appreciate your help with this.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: C:\WINDOWS\system32\apdd.dll - {405132A4-5DD1-4BA8-A181-95C8D435093A} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\apdd.dll (file missing)

Delete all of these noted file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

Thanks a bunch!
I rebooted in safe mode and couldn't delete sfax.dll, so it's still in there.
Do you have any tips on how I can delete it?

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing .

This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log. Copy/paste the contents of that log into this thread.


IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing , then press any key to reboot your computer.

After the reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {88C9975E-3995-4C53-BB17-B893F278049A} - C:\WINDOWS\sfax.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: sfax - C:\WINDOWS\sfax.dll

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all of these noted file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\windows\sfax.dll <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

Sfax.dll is ghosted, and when I try to delete it, a message appears saying that sfax.dll is currently in use. I tried deleting it through myComputer and by running regEdit through command prompt. I had no other programmes running on either occasion. Any ideas?

Jotti Online File Scanner

VirusTotal Online File Scanner

And submit these files for a virus scan:

C:\WINDOWS\sfax.dll

Well… I'd still like more info, if you don't mind.

Do you have a fax machine hooked up, or any fax software installed that you are aware of?

Use windows explorer, and navigate and put the cursor on:

C:\WINDOWS\sfax.dll

And tell me what is in the "bubble" that pops up?
(Date created / Company))

I'd rather be "safe" than "sorry".

I don't have a fax ever attached to my laptop. sfax.dll has no company name, but was created on Aug 1st this year and is 516 kb I've just unchecked 'hidden' so I might be able to delete it now.
