Hello Jennifer and welcome to TomCoyote forum :) You have this item on board: Accoona Search Assistant see this:
http://castlecops.com/tk2111-ASearchAssist_dll.html

I suggest at the very least you do this:

1) Do not post twice, that just adds to the confusion here. Thanks.

2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions on the download page and please do not run it until I ask you to.

3) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php Please do not activate TeaTimer until we are finished with the repair.
The newest version of Ad-aware is 1.06 and Spybot 1.04. Even if you have these programs, use the link to get the newest version, update and configure them as in the link. Run Spybot first, reboot then run Ad-aware. Both programs back up what they remove so delete anything the programs say should be removed.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.accoona.com/search_assistant/ac…ampaign=wdz0605
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.accoona.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.accoona.com/search_assistant/ac…ampaign=wdz0605

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = F:\WINDOWS\System32\blank.htm
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: Accoona Search Assistant - {944864A5-3916-46E2-96A9-A2E84F3F1208} - C:\Program Files\Accoona\ASearchAssist.dll (file missing)
O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe (file missing)
(above two are optional but I suggest removal)
O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://www.bigfishgames.com/online/bejewel…aploader_v6.cab
(above is grayware, it is optional also but I suggest you remove it)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) Run CCleaner, when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log in this same thread along with any feedback you have.

(Optional) This may not be necessary but if you wish a deep scan to be sure nothing bad is lurking on your computer that HJT can not see, then follow these directions and also post the Ewido scan results along with the HJT log.
Ewido scan:
Please download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

Thanks…pskelley

I would appreciate a look at that Ewido scan log as requested in my last post.

I suggest you purge the System Restore files to make sure nothing bad is hiding in there, here are instuctions for doing that:

Sorry I forgot that log. I very much appreciate your help. The only thing I notice is that opening web pages is a little slow., but no other issues. I was wondering about the pretech folder, I have never touched that folder and should it be emptied periodically. Thanks again I will do the remainder of things you suggested. Jennifer ewido security suite - Scan report ——————————————————— + Created on: 2:19:43 PM, 8/16/2005 + Report-Checksum: 292A988D + Scan result: C:\Documents and Settings\Jennifer\Desktop\Media\backups\backup-20050816-131838-575.dll -> Not-A-Virus.PornWare.PopCap.b : Cleaned with backup ::Report End
Thanks for the Ewido log, I like to make sure anything found is cleaned with backups. You would be surprised at how many folks make the mistake of not taking action and nothing happens to the bad stuff.

Indeed you want to clean the Preftch folder. Leave the folder, just delete the contents. Often bad stuff can't be seen in running processes so it is usually running from Prefetch. These hackers/hijackers are slick thinking we can't find it there. In your case the junk was there to see so I presumed Ewido and CCleaner would check Prefetch. Remember you might load a little slow until windows repopulates the Prefetch with valid stuff. Here are some links to help you with Prefetch, speeding up a little and some maintenance reminders.
C:\Windows\Prefetch: Locate this folder and delete all of the contents (NOT THE FOLDER) This information will tell you more about Prefetch:

Here is a good sitre to run a diagnostic scan on your computer, free and they will help understand the log in the free forum.
