Lately I've had a huge problem with the "Winfixer" program which has inconviently downloaded itself onto my computer and constantly re-installs itself everytime I try to delete it. There also seems to be a few other popup problems that occur occasionaly. Thanks for your help!

Hello xander1234, Welcome to the forum.

This is what I suggest you do.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.4 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.06 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I went through all the the scans and such as you asked, however there was a large amount of items on the virus scans that couldn't be deleted.

Currently my computer is running much more slowly than it normally ever does. It only started running slowly when Winfixer downloaded itself. I also seem to be getting random popups at random times which I never used to get before.

My new HijackThis log is below:

You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. After the updates are installed, exit ewido.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • If you have an "always on" connection to the internet, physically disconnect that connection until you are finished with Safe Mode and have rebooted back into normal mode.
  • Reboot into Safe Mode, you can do this by restarting your computer, then contiunally tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter. Then, run ewido.
  • Close all open windows/programs/folders. Have nothing else open while ewido performs its scan!
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Settings
    • Under "How to scan" all boxes should be selected
    • Under "Possibly unwanted software" all boxes should be selected
    • Under "What to scan" select scan every file
    • Click OK
  • Click on Complete system scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. NOTE: We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, AOL, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged. In particular, watch for alerts that have the word "Heuristic" in them - if you recognize the file name as "friendly," these may actually be false positives) select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections." If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report.
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
  • Exit ewido

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
Ok, I ran Enwido and removed everything that didn't seem right. The only program that I didn't remove was the keylogger which I want to keep on here.

The Ewido log is below:

But is it still considered spyware if I downloaded it myself so I could personally keep log of all the keystrokes on my computer? I have a password set on it so that only I can view the log. Is there any other security risk attached to this program?
I originally got it from the programs main site www.blazingtools.com Although when I tried to visit the site today, I was unable to do so. The program hides in the background and lets you log all the keystrokes that are written on your computer. I personally use it to make sure no one is using my computer without my knowledge. I haven't had any problems with it, as far as I know and it seems pretty secure. Also, the reviews I've read about it online seemed pretty positive. You can find plenty of reviews on it by googling "Perfect Keylogger" It seems safe, but I could always be wrong.
I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Use Add/Remove Programs and remove:
WinFixer

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Search for and delete these folders if listed:
C:\Program Files\WinFixer 2005

Search for and delete these files if listed:
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWFX5LP_0001_0802NetInstaller.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWAS5LP_0001_0908NetInstaller.exe

If you can't find C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWFX5LP_0001_0715NetInstaller.exe , perform next:

Go to start > run and type: regsvr32 /u occache.dll
(or copy and paste this in the field in start > run )
Click Ok

Now search and delete:

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWFX5LP_0001_0715NetInstaller.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWAS5LP_0001_0908NetInstaller.exe

Go to start > run and type regsvr32 occache.dll
Click OK

Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I did everything you said, only problem I had was that I never found
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWFX5LP_0001_0715NetInstaller.exe
although I did find and delete
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWFX5LP_0001_0802NetInstaller.exe

The computer seems to be running normal right now. I haven't received any prompts to re-download WinFixer, but I also haven't been on for more than a few minutes. Hopefully it's completely gone now.

Here's the newest HIJACKTHIS log:

Tools Needed for this fix:

Killbox http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php
Process Explorer http://www.sysinternals.com/files/procexpnt.zip
FixVundo.reg http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/spyware/fixvundo.reg

This infection will always have at least one DLL that is called an MSEvents Object as shown below. This same DLL will also appear as a O20 Winlogon Notify entry as shown below. These DLLs will have random names but you can spot them based on the information just given.

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {B8B55274-0F9A-41E5-9067-A3539BD9E860} - C:\WINDOWS\Help\starter\sras.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: sras - C:\WINDOWS\Help\starter\sras.dll

Removal Instructions:

In order to remove this infection we will need to use HijackThis to manually remove the infection:

Print out these instructions as we will need to shutdown every window that is open later in the fix.

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals and extract it to your desktop. Do not run this now as we will use it later.

Download KillBox and extract it to your desktop. Do not run this now as we will use it later.

Download FixVundo.reg and save it to your desktop. Do not run this now as we will use it later.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Double-click on procexp.exe which is the Process Explorer that we downloaded
earlier.

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double-click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of the DLL found when analyzing the log and click on the kill button. For example, the DLL name for the symptoms above would be sras.dll. Your actually DLL name will be different. If you see any files listed that are the same name but end with .bak or .ini or are the name in reverse, you can kill those as well.

After you have killed all of the instances of the DLL under winlogon click on the OK button.

Now double-click on explorer.exe, select the Threads tab, and again click once on each instance of the DLL you determined to be part of the infection. Once they are highlighted click on the Kill button.

When this is done, click on the OK button again.

Now run HijackThis again, close all windows, and press the Scan button.

Place a check next to each of the entries that you determined were bad from the log that you printed earlier. In our example symptoms these lines would be:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {B8B55274-0F9A-41E5-9067-A3539BD9E860} - C:\WINDOWS\Help\starter\sras.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: sras - C:\WINDOWS\Help\starter\sras.dll

Once all the entries are checked, press the Fix button and then exit HijackThis.

Now double-click on the FixVundo.reg file that you downloaded earlier and allow it to merge the information.

Double-click on Killbox.exe that you downloaded and extracted earlier. Select the delete on reboot option. Then enter the full path to the DLL that is part of this infection into the Full path of file to delete field. In our example symptoms the full path of the file would be:

C:\WINDOWS\Help\starter\sras.dll

Click the red circle with the white X and select Yes to the delete prompt
and press the red circle with the white X and select Yes to the delete prompt and then Yes to reboot now.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I went through all your instructions and *hopefully* followed them all correctly.

However, it seems the Winfixer Installation popups have begun again. As soon as I restarted my computer, Winfixer started to install itself and I had to "ctrl-alt-delete" in order to stop it from finishing the installation.
