Ok, good job on getting all that done. Let's clean up just a couple of leftovers. Please run HijackThis and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries:
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

Close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked" to have HijackThis fix the entries you checked.

Reboot your computer and post a new HJT log.

I have all of the remaining ancilliary programs working now, the last was CCleaner. I found out there was a later version of Visual Basic 6 Runtime files, a Service Pack 6, which once installed along with a replaced clean version of CCleaner, enabled it to run ok. I still have no idea what this Visual Basic thing is all about or even if I have it on my sytem, but anyway it seemed to fix it. It looks like I have lost the integration of Image Preview into my picture files by the use of IEradicator and I am pretty disappointed about that as I used it all the time, in their notes file they mention affecting Web View whatever that is, and after long searches of the Web it looks as if this is linked to Image Preview. Only other thing is I would like to get rid of the one last entry in Hijackthis, the …….Search, Search Assistant one at the top of the list. This search page is constantly taking over my search page in IE and friving me mad! Any ideas please? regards BarryA
Ok, let's see if we can find out what is putting that entry back. Please download SilentRunners from here (version 37). Right-click the link and choose save as. Save it to the desktop and then double-click on it. If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run. When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop. Please post the entire contents of this logfile for me to see. When the script is done running, you will receive a popup informing you as such. Please wait for the script to run completely.
Ok here is the log file:-

It says wait until a dialog box comes up to say that it is finished, but no box came up either time I ran it! So this time I left it over 30 mins to be sure it had finished and it looks ok now:-

Ok that has removed the top line entry in Hijackthis (……Search Assistant). So i will monitor now to see if it has removed the hijacking page when I am using IE. Will report again soon. regards………BarryA
Hi DAParker I have been away again but just wanted to let you know that all is still well and working fine. Have run Hijackthis, Adaware, Spybot, etc and have detected nothing so remain with a clean bill of health. Your assistance and perseverance has been very much appreciated, so a big thank you ! I will try to close this thread now if I can figure out how to do it. Thanks again kind regards…………BarryA
