For the past few months, things have been happening on my computer that make me take notice. My yahoo cam is no longer plugged in. It says offline. I need to unplug/plug in again. My yahoo offline messages are no longer there at times. I have had my user accounts locked out! I couldnt even get into my own control panel. I finally was able to restart my computer in safe mode and go back as far as I could, 3 months or so, and then was able to get in then? Just all kinds of things like this. Me being ummm…blonde..no, that's not it..just ignorant when it comes to program files and what should and should not be there…well, I have no idea!???

Here is my HJT LOG:

Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

Please make a PERMANANT folder for Hijack This!

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT. MOVE (drag-and-drop) HijackThis into this folder.

If required a tutorial is here = Hijackthis Folder Tutorial

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…/search/ie.html

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…://my.yahoo.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…rch/search.html

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Jacqueline] c:\WINDOWS\system32\iexplore.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [IEXPLORER] C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiecfg.exe

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all of these noted file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\windows\system32\iexplore.exe <— file
(Delete this iexplore.exe file only! The "real" one is here: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe)

c:\windows\system32\msiecfg.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

Why not try a free online virus scan before posting another log?

I think that "iexplore.exe" in your system folder is a "Lovegate" worm. There may be other bad things lurking in the shadows…

Try this online virus scan:

Trend-Micro Housecall

Choose "fix" or "clean".

Let it remove any infections found.

Reboot after the scan.
Hi there Micah,

Thanks for the welcome and I want to let you know what I have done..

I made a permanent file on C:HJT

Then I ran HiJackThis System Scan only and deleted the 9 files you told me to.

Rebooted in Safe Mode

Deleted only the C:\Windows\System32\msiecfg file
I couldn't find C:\Windows\System32\iexplore.exe?

Rebooted in Normal mode

Did the Housecall Scan and found no viruses, or trojans….

Ran the HJT again and will post my log below.

What do I need to do now, if anything?

Hmmm… One of the baddies is back… <_<

Download Killbox from here:

Killbox.zip

Unzip it, but don't run it yet.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Jacqueline] c:\WINDOWS\system32\iexplore.exe

Then click "Fix checked" & close Hijack This!

Now, run Killbox.

In Killbox select "Delete on Reboot".

Paste the next line into the "Full Path of File to Delete" text box.

c:\WINDOWS\system32\iexplore.exe

Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes", and "Yes" again.

When the machine reboots, "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)
THANKS AGAIN! I won't be able to do this tonight..I am beat! All this bug stuff is making my eyes buggy! LOL…

But I will do it tomorrow…..hope to hear back from you then!

Sleep tight, don't let the computer bugs bite!

Jacqueline xo
HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!! I did what you said to do..but are you sure that is the right file to delete? Now all my programs dont work and I cant even run a log for you?? I did it just as you said? Was that file suppose to be something else? HELP!!!!!
Go to:

Start –> All Programs –> Accessories –> System Tools –> System Restore

Then chose a restore point from as close to yesterday as you can find.

Restore your system, then reboot.
I tried this and when I get to system restore, a box comes up and says open with????? Okay..are my blonde roots showing? Sorry to be a pain!
1. Reboot
2. When the system first boots, hit F8 to bring up the boot menu
3. Select the Safe Mode with Command Prompt option
4. Log-on as administrator if needed
5. At your command prompt type:
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe then hit
6. This will open the system restore wizard.
PHEW! All was restored (from what I can tell)…to yesterday. Does this mean that all the stuff that I did prior that you asked me to is now obsolete and need to be redone? Also..WHAT HAPPENED? Did I do something wrong?
That was close.

I don't think you did anything wrong, unless you didn't get the right things pasted into Killbox.

This is definitely a bad file:

c:\WINDOWS\system32\iexplore.exe

Microsoft NEVER makes the name of important files the same.

The "real" iexplore.exe is here:

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Let's do this…

Make another Hijack This! log file.

If this entry is in it:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Jacqueline] c:\WINDOWS\system32\iexplore.exe

Then go to these web sites:

Kaspersky Online File Scanner

Jotti Online File Scanner

And sumbit this file for an online virus scan:

c:\WINDOWS\system32\iexplore.exe

Let me know what they say it is infected with.
Oh..almost forgot..here is a NEW LOG FILE…after I restarted back to yesterday. I hope this is helpful.

ALSO..I want to thank you for taking the time with me. I do appreciate it very much! Smooches!

Jacqueline
