Hello beaumonde and welcome to TomCoyote forum :) If you are not being helped elsewhere, please do this in the posted order. Thanks.

1) You are running HJT from a Temp folder and we need a permanent folder to store the logs and backups for safety. This information will help you correct this. Because Temp files will get deleted during this process, please do not proceed until this is done.
http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial94.html
Note: This video tutorial requires Macromedia Flash to play.
http://www.spywareaid.com/index.php?file=svideo&id;=1

2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions on the download page and please do not run it until I ask you to.

3) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php Please do not activate TeaTimer until we are finished with the repair.

4) Ewido scan:
Please download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

5) Open Add Remove programs and uninstall Web_Rebates if it is there, if not then Open Task Manager then the Processes tab. Highlite and end process on Web_Rebates.

***some items may have been removed during the scans***

6) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.yahoo.com/search/ie.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…rch/search.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…://my.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WebRebates0] "C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\WebRebates0.exe
O4 - Global Startup: LimeWire 3.8.9.lnk = C:\Program Files\LimeWire\3.8.9\LimeWire.exe
O8 - Extra context menu item: Web Rebates - file://C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\Sy1150\Tp1150\scri1150a.htm

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

7) SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\ >>> folder

C:\Program Files\LimeWire\ >>> folder

Locate C:\Windows\Prefetch folder and open it. Delete the contents of the folder (NOT THE FOLDER) if there are many choose Edit then Select all then Delete. You may not be able to remove them all, don't be concerned unless any have the name of the items we need to remove. Here is some information about the Prefetch for you:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_…refetch-XP.html

8) Run CCleaner but do not use the registry cleaner unless you backup the registry first when prompted for safety. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log along with the Ewido scan report in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley

OK beaumonde, We may have a little communication issue here. This is no problem because I would rather you are clear before you proceed.
When I asked you not to proceed it was because I did not want you to use HJT (which will backup removed item when it is in a safe folder) but the backups would have been lost when you ran CCleaner which cleans out the Temporary folder HJT was stored in at first. Now that you have #1 of the instructions complete, please go back to my first instructions and start with #2. Complete all instructions one by one until you complete #8, then post a new HJT log and the log you will save from the Ewido scan. I will see what if anything is left to do at that point. Thanks…Phil
