I am working on an HP Pavilion that was chock full of problems when I embarked on this journey. With the help of Ad-Aware SE from Lavasoft and SpyBot, it appears that everthing is gone except for "Adware - abetterintrnt" I cannot get rid of it despite using McAfee Virus scan and Panda Active Scan. It reloads with each fresh boot. Please help. Below is the HijackThis log taken after a fresh start. I am running XP Home ver 5.1 and have downloaded all available updates from Microsoft.

Hello penny, welcome to the TC.

Download LSPfix here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Start the program and then check the I know what I'm doing box.

Move all instances of sfbnsp.dll (and nothing else), to the Remove pane.
Click the Finish Button and reboot.

Find and delete the file c:\windows\system\sfbnsp.dll

1. Open My Computer
2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
6. A box will display the various files you can remove.
Check all boxes except compress old files
7. Click OK and windows will comply.

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
First, thank you LDTate for helping me. This is my first time interacting on a forum. I waited the five days and last night, in desperation, I downloaded and ran ewido. It found about 15 problems which I let it correct. At that point, I lost connectivity to the internet and have been unable to resolve. There are two other computers in the room with me though, so it is a manageable situation.

I followed your instructions - ran lspfix.exe and only removed the one instance of sfbnsp.dll. I then rebooted and only found one instance of the file - not in the system folder but in a folder \Programs\Oemji, which I am unable to delete. Here is a fresh HijackThis file after reboot.

Important: Do this before any fix.

You need to update your version of HijackThis. Open HJT> Open Misc Tools> Pull the side bar down> Check for update online. If that doesn't work, download it from my signature and remove the hijackThis.exe you have now.

Also please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

After the above:

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I'm now running V 1.99.1

Also, the computer appears to be running without problem, but I also don't have internet access which triggers the McAfee messages that a suspicious file is running. Thanks again.
Please print this out.

Download Ewido, install then from within the program check for updates BUT dont scan yet
ewido security suite: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/ewido…te/1098736486/1
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu". When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK.
We will fix this in a moment.
From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), Now close the program.
Do NOT run a scan yet.

Notes: If you already have the program please make sure its version 3.5 you have and updated.
If the program just exits before it finishes start it again and set it up to do a custom scan:
Start the program click the scan button over to the left click custom scan, click add drive/directory/file
and add c:\documents and settings\
add c:\windows\
add c:\windows\system32\ also, then click start scan, have it remove everything found.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us/easyfile/file.php?dow…050711214630636
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly — this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
I restarted and opened Internet Explorer and a McAfee window pops up immediately saying "the file c:\Program Files\Oemji\OemjiSearchPlus\sfbnsp.dll is a potentially unwanted program and cannot be removed." Also, although the network connection is receiving and sending packets, no web browser capability. any suggestions?
Use add/remove programs and remove OemjiSearchPlus if listed.

Delete this folder if listed:
c:\Program Files\Oemji

Now run the LSPFix that you downloaded earlier.

Start the program and then check the I know what I'm doing box.

Move all instances of sfbnsp.dll (and nothing else), to the Remove pane.
Click the Finish Button and reboot.

If sfbnsp.dll is not listed just click the Finish Button and reboot.

Find and delete the file c:\windows\system\sfbnsp.dll if listed.
