After running "updated" versions of AVG, Spybot, Ad-ware SE and CWShredder this is my current log. I also run Zone Alarm.

Thanks for your help!

Hello DProctor;

Thanks for sending your information. We are sorry for the delay in responding. The volunteers here are swamped and unfortunately, not all logs get answered as quickly as we'd like.

If you still need help with your problem, please run Hijack This again, copy the log and post it here, in this string, using the Post Reply feature, so I will be notified.

By the way, did you download and install those free protection programs, recommended by Alsocom, in one of your previous posts ? If not, that should be your first step.
Thank you for responding…. I cannot complain I can imagine how overrun you probably are. Here is a new scan. Yes, I ran the scans, and have the latest versions of Spybot, Adware and AVG and also run Zone Alarm.

Hi DProctor

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside each one of the following entries:

O4 - Global Startup: F1U201.401.lnk = ?

The following are Optional fixes:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Viewpoint Search - res://C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll/CXTSEARCH.HTML

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK, and delete them (if they are present):

Please note: If the following have been fixed with HJT and removed here, the Program "Viewpoint" must also be Uninstalled/Removed, in Add/Remove Programs.

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar

With that done, your Hijack This log seems to be clean.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

So how did I get infected in the first place?
