Please run L2MFix again, this time choosing Option 4 Merge WinLogon Notify defaults.

That will reset the Notify Key to its defaults and should produce a log you can post.
Hi, I done what you said to do. Here is a copy of the log. Thanks again, :) LiOnEsS :) Restoring Registry Permissions: RegDACL 5.1 - Permissions Manager for Registry keys for Windows NT 4 and above Copyright © 1999-2001 Frank Heyne Software (http://www.heysoft.de) This program is Freeware, use it on your own risk! Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
HI,

Here is what you asked for.

Thanks,

:) LiOnEss :)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Search for and delete these files if listed:
c:\windows\system32\mdms.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Steve \second.bat ?

Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi, My computer won't restart at all. We got a message saying "file missing - system32 configuration or something. Everything that my partner has done to try and fire it up again has failed. I hadn't done the last step. I got up too the posting the last hijack log. Thanks for your help, but looks like we'll probally need a new hard drive as when my partner put it in another computer it still wouldn't fire up. Not sure whats wrong. Cheers, Rachel
Hi, Yes we do. My partner seems to think that the hardrive has pooooped itself. Cheers, LiOnESs *Rachel* P.s - I'm no good when it comes to formatting etc. My partner has a better understanding for it…LOL!
Well it's your call, but you can try to boot with the CD and select R for reapir.
After everything gets loaded, at the C> type in Chkdsk /p
Let it do it's thing. See if that helps.

Although this might help get it running again, I wouldn't trust the Hard Drive very long. Get your data off it and replace it.
Hi, Thank you heaps for your advice. I will show my partner this forum when he returns home from work this afternoon. (It's early morning, 09:20 am here in Australia) Its worth a shot…. just so we can retrieve some folders etc. Luckily for us we had 2 h'd in that computer and most of the important stuff is backed up and on the second drive. Have a good day, :) LiOnEsS :)
