Below is my HjT log. I posted a description of my problem under "Other Computer Problems" on 07/27/05 by the title, "Windows Explorer Shutdown & InstallShield Error". Thanks in advance for reviewing my log.

PS. I just tried to install the update to the TradeStation software (a new build number) and I got the Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows error message, "To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program"
Name: Windows Explorer
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation

When I click on "Close Message" Windows didn't close, but I got another message:
"Windows Explorer, Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

All I did was click on the .exe file that is the upgrade file that uses InstallShield Wizard to update TradeStation. The window "Open File - Security Warning" is also open waiting for me to click either Run or Cancel to run the .exe file. I sending this message before pressing the "Don't Send" button on the Windows Exploror has encountered a problem message since it will probably close me out of this Internet Explorer page when I do. If something other than that occurs, I will post additional information.

PSPS, OK I clicked on "Don't Send" and got another window about DrWatson Postmortem Debugger. "DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. We are sorry…". It froze everything up. When I tried to click out of it every froze (all pages I had open). I went into Windows Task Manager and closed the drwatson file that was in the process list and was able to close it that way. When I did my screen went blank for less than a second, a blink and then my desktop came back with all icons and I was able to get back to this forum. I did notice that in Task Manager, there is something that is running that about every 2 - 3 seconds is loading up my CPU usage. It is basing at about 2 - 4% then spikes to 60 - 90%. I've had an infection in the past that did this so I'm wondering if I still have a viral/malware infection. I still have two rundll32.exe processes running and I don't like the looks of it. I really don't remembe them running prior to getting the viruses I mentioned in my other thread yesterday. I had Abetterinternet, Spyware.Look2Me, Bookspace, and several others. this was such a sweet computer a week ago. This is killing me. It was pristine and clean. Pls help. Thanks

Couple things to try:

Have you tried to restore back to a date before this happened?

It looks like you already have Ewido.

update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, click on the Scanner run a full scan and let it clean everything it finds. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
I tried using FastReply, but am not sure what that does, so I am re-posting the two scans here. The files found in EWIDO are zipped up in the l2mfix.exe backup file.

I don't see anything bad in your log, but I don't know how you ran the L2mefix either. So this is up to you:

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

EXTRA:
Looks like the Notify Key has been borked by L2M, though. Have him run L2MFix again, this time choosing Option 4 Merge WinLogon Notify defaults.

That will reset the Notify Key to its defaults and should produce a log he can post.

When I ran L2Mfix after reboot, I got another DEP error message that told me Windows needed to close TCP/IP Ping Command. An error had been encountered, etc. I'm beginning to think that there must be a registry problem, but I really don't know what the heck I'm talking about. This is deeper than I've been into trying to problem solve computer issues. This is the scan after running L2Mfix using option 4. That cleaned a few things. I ran a couple of other programs and everything looked good, but then I went to the .exe file that i have been trying to install to upgrade TradeStation to the latest build and when I double clicked on the .exe file, I got another DEP message that said "To protect my computer, Windows has closed the program. Name: Windows Explorer, Publisher: MS" I don't understand why this occurs. I've never had a problem with installing a program before. Then I got another message that states, "DrWatson Postmortem Debugger: DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for …". I clicked on "Don't Send" and all windows froze. I tried to send this post, but couldn't, so I opened Task Manager and closed the processs DrWatson and the DrW PD window is still open, but I could use my cursor again and get back into this post. I'm getting ready to click on "Don't Send" again, but will send this first.
Before I click on "Don't Send" I decided to run HJT again and post.

I certainly appreciate all that have looked into this. It appears that my computer is pretty clean of malware, but has some other little issue. I think I am going to call it a night. Thanks again for your help and if you come up with any other actions for me to do, please post again.
